If Arlington beats Millington it will be like this:

1) Arlington

2) Germantown

3) White Station

4) Brighton

Each of these teams is the overall district champ and will get rewarded as such with a home game in the first round. This is also how they would rank in the tiebreakers as listed under the wild card section on the tssaa website. It takes into consideration if every team was a wild card and they have all the tiebreakers there.

As far as the other 4 teams:

5) Whitehaven

6) Wooddale

7) Millington

8) Kirby

This is also how these teams would rank as far as tiebreakers. Plus you have to take into consideration that Arlington can't play Millington in the first round, White Station can't play Whitehaven and Germantown can't play Wooddale or Kirby since those teams are in the same district.

So your matchups would be:

(higher seed is home team)

(1) Arlington vs (8) Kirby

(4) Brighton vs (5) Whitehaven

(2) Germantown vs (7) Millington

(3) White Station vs (6) Wooddale

They are but White Station beat them head up and the Spartans don't have any losses in the league. Even if Whitehaven wins this week and White Station loses, they would be tied and White Station would have the head to head advantage. If you are the overall winner of the district, you get rewarded with a home game.

Now if Millington beats Arlington then things are much different. Because you still have to factor in matchups with teams from the same district so teams might not be seeded as highly as they think they should in order to preserve the right matchups.

Therefore, if Millington beats Arlington:

1) White Station

2) Germantown

3) Brighton

4) Millington

Yes currently Germantown is ranked higher than White Station and should be the #1 seed but you will see why I have done it this way in a moment.

5) Whitehaven

6) Wooddale

7) Arlington

8) Kirby

Kirby is locked in at 8 because they are the 3rd team from that district and currently are 4-5 overall going into week 10. The reason Arlington slides to 7 is this: If you rank them according to wild card tiebreakers they would be 1st among these 4 teams and that would make them the 5 seed. They would be scheduled to play Millington (4 seed). They can't do that because they are in the same district. So they have to drop. If you drop them to the 6 seed, they would matchup with the 3 seed, Brighton. No big deal there. Except that would leave you 2-7 game at Germantown vs Wooddale. That can't happen because those 2 teams are in the same district. So Arlington falls to 7.

(1) White Station vs (8) Kirby

(4) Millington vs (5) Whitehaven

(2) Germantown vs (7) Arlington

(3) Brighton vs (6) Wooddale

So, based on what you've outlined, here's the deal for Millington:

a) if Millington loses to Arlington....... Millington plays Gtwn in playoffs

:roflolk: if Millington defeats Arlington ....... Millington gets "rewarded..." plays Whitehaven

-----------------------------------

Uuhh, it sure looks to me that Millington will be far better off LOSING to Arlington!!!! Of course, we all know that Millington is gonna go all out to defeat Arlington, but....

Millington matches up a whole lot better with Germantown, IMO, than they do with Whitehaven! In other words, Millington stands a better chance of defeating Germantown.

Interesting playoff scenarios, MarkH.

Well enlighten us instead of just posting not accurate.

The only thing that I haven't accounted for is this. Right now Whitehaven is the number 2 team in the district and therefore an automatic qualifier. However, if Melrose defeats Whitehaven Friday night, Melrose would slide up and be the number 2 team. Whitehaven would still make the playoffs as a wild card but that would change the entire dynamics of the bracket.

They will seed the overall district winners first then the other automatic qualifiers and then the wild cards. An Arlington win and a Whitehaven loss will make the bracket look like this:

(1) Arlington vs (8) Whitehaven

(4) Brighton vs (5) Wooddale

(2) White Station vs (7) Kirby

(3) Germantown vs (6) Millington

A Millington win and Whitehaven loss:

(1) Germantown vs (8) Whitehaven

(4) Millington vs (5) Wooddale

(2) White Station vs (7) Kirby

(3) Brighton vs (6) Arlington

At least that's how I see it.

TraderB, I do agree that Millington matches up with Germantown better than they do with Whitehaven. However, Millington and Whitehaven have a long playoff history playing each other 6 times. If I am not mistaken each team has won 3 games each and the home team won each time.

you aren't taking into account all possible wild card teams, if Cordova wins at Bolton on Friday night they should have enough wins with 6 to secure one of the 6 wild card spots, leaving 9 playoff teams in the area. which will cause one of the teams to be sent towards the Nashville area for the playoffs.

    • I have no idea who your team is, but Memphis and other Shelby Co. schools have hardly made a dent, if you’re talking Game 15 appearances. Outside of a couple by Whitehaven, I can’t recall the last team in a final.
    • Robbed you guy at a chance of 3 state championships. You never kne, sond best team in the west my have beat you also, but you sure deserved the chance to play um.
    • Eagleville also loses Brown the catcher, Lamb CF, Mclemore RF (Heck of an athlete) and Drew the 1st baseman. They will be young.
    • Good thing we aren’t in Florida then huh? It would benefit a ton of the smaller schools  that don’t have the pools of kids to choose from! They should start by policing Shelby County like they do the rest of the state! Something has to change though and TSSAA knows that!
    • Correct, you can whimsically be fired in coaching. A coach that has tenure can stay on as a teacher if released from coaching. If you don’t have tenure as a teacher, you can fired without cause. Your last year as a teacher before tenure is earned you can be fired, but must be given cause. A tenured teacher can be fired, but it is a long hard process requiring the 3 D’s…. documentation, documentation and documentation. I have released 3 tenured teachers, 2 with PHD’s. However, teacher contracts had and still have clauses that state you can be fired for a variety reasons re: being arrested, public drunkenness, inappropriate relationships ect.
