kwc
First ... these games aren't being played in the confines of the City of Memphis, but they involve City of Memphis teams therefore the reason for this post. MUS will be playing in the championship game on Thu., Dec 3, 2009 in Cookville. White Station and Mitchell will both travel to middle Tennessee to play in semi-final games this Fri., Nov. 27, 2009. The games are listed as follows: Semi-finals: Class 5A Mitchell (D-16, 10-3) @ Beech (D-9, 11-2) Class 6A White Station (D-16, 11-2) @ Brentwood (D-11, 11-2) Finals: Class DII-AA MUS (West, 13-0) vs MBA (East/Middle, 9-4) @ TTU Tucker Stadium in Cookville, TN My picks are as follows: Mitchell beats Beech in a thriller ............................ 49 - 35 White Station advance to the championship game .... 35 - 28 MUS repeats and has another undefeated season .... 35 - 21 Those are my selections and yes I'm pulling for the Memphis teams because I think they can do it. What do you guys think?

What do you guys think? Mitchell 40 --- Beech 31..... No rain in forecast! Mitchell has too many offensive playmakers for most teams-- Smart money says that Beech simply will not be able to stop all 5 of 'em (which is precisely what Beech needs to do, IMO), and proceed to outscore Mitchell! Brentwood 35 --- White Station 21 ...... Our AAA (6A) playoff teams, for whatever reason, just have NOT been able to defeat the Middle Tennessee teams! Until we finally do, then smart money says that Brentwood will most likely defeat White Station. MUS 28 --- MBA 17 ....... MBA is riding high and on a roll right now, but will get brought back down to earth by MUS. The extra week's layoff will "dull" MBA's sharp edge, IMO. On the other hand, MUS played poorly last week. The layoff should help them to re-focus, get back to the basics of "MUS brand of football" and get healthy (hopefully).... Smart money says-- MUS jumps on MBA early, then holds them off late. ---------------------------------------- Go Mitchell, White Station and MUS! Ace5
Im with you guys I want to see some Memphis flavor up there next week. Getting excited to make the annual pilgrimmage to the state champ games. Got the hotel booked. Head up there Thursday morning and back after the last game Sat night. I will say this though and I have never been able to figure it out. For whatever reasons coaching staffs and fans of high school football in Memphis hardly ever go up there. Last year I saw the head coaches of Hamilton and Raleigh Egypt and the Bartlett coaching staff that was it. I learn something new every year I go. I do understand that sometimes things come up like I missed a couple of years ago b/c of a death in the family, but I go every single year. My wife knows not to plan anything for that week b/c I am going to go hang out with the guys and watch tons of football. Go West Tn!! JodyJoe
I think Memphis takes 2 of 3. Everyone is talking about how Bleech and MBA is hot, well Mitchell is scorching and MUS has been blazing for two years.
BMack
Mitchell should beat Beech. MUS should beat MBA. I was hoping to see an MUS-Ensworth matchup, but oh well. I know Anthony Hayes feels more confident about this game than any other this year, but not me. I don't think White Station stands much of a chance. Sure, White Station could be anybody on any given night, but I don't see it happening tonight.

I guess Arlington won't have to move regions, just schedule better. Congrats White Station.

Come on man, they have been playing varsity football for 3 years! Do you think anyone public school would be scheduling White Station, MUS, CBHS, Whitehaven types in the first 3 years of varsity? Are district has been tough over the last few years. I would assume in the future they will schedule some more challenging out of district opponents. But keep in mind, in the last 4 years they have sheduled: Ensworth, Germantown, and Collierville as out of district games. All of these are very good programs. Congrats to White Station!!! Bring it home guys!!!
JodyJoe
I think their schedule could've been more difficult, but you don't want your team playing and losing big against out of district teams like Southwind did. Lake Coromant, Brentwood Academy, Memphis East pretty tough slate and all were blowouts.

I typed that because after Arlington lost in the first round of the playoffs, Bmack wrote at length about the weakness of west Tennessee football, implying that it was the root cause of Arlingtons early playoff exit. I actually like Arlington and hope more teams in the Shelby metro area mimic their adoption of the spread offense.
