If an announcement is made Tuesday and Coach Carter is the hire, it would really be a hostile crowd in the Rebel gym to welcome the Hilltoppers that evening. I believe I will notify the WPVFD to fill the pumpers and be on standby in case we have the students burning mattresses ala UT/Lane Kiffin. :roflol::lol:

Hey Crawdad. It would be THE coach. And maybe Tuesday it will be KiffinMuffins. That would be the new CROW.

I would be amazed if THE position comes open that it would be filled by anyone other than one of our own. Having said that ,I am hoping Coach Haynie stays. If he were to leave and two positions opened, maybe Coaches Seeger and Winchell could slide into Rebel blue and bring their stellar athlete sons with them! How's that for making lemonade outta lemons?

Yeah, that would be great. Bring in some middle school coaches. They bring their kids. I am sure that will go over well with the Jordans, Hiltons and all the kids who have and will work their butts off for a chance this year only to get beat out by a coaches kid.

My hopes for a South coach this year. Be it Carter or anyone else:

1. Get the kids ready physically, as they have during these prosperous years.

2. Give everybody a fair shake at playing time. (NO preconceived notions or daddy involvement). This itself will boost involvement and attitude.

3. Actually pay attention to what is happening with the Freshman and JV games and practices. Maybe even attend a game or two.

4. Get ready for the big games and have a Plan B if things don't work out. ADJUST to the situation at hand. Predictability kills.

5. Watch the locker rooms.

J...I believe it is well documented that I am a hard core Hunter Jordan advocate. I have tremendous respect for Coach Haynie as well. And as well I believe Justin is one of us also. I fully believe in him. I don't know Coach Seegar well but in my conversations with him I believe he is a quality individual. I only meant to report that he is reported to be interested in the South job. I believe Central is his calling. As well I also feel we could easily step on well weathered toes at South if we aren't careful. I think Hunter, Justin and Eric Rowe are fully capable of taking over. If Coach Haynie is relegated to staying at South should this transition take place differently than proposed then all the better. I have my doubts that it will go as we think. We will see. Under any circumstances, I feel we will be fine. I believe in who we have to drive the boat. Just me but I would think that if Stacy can't take Haynie with him that it would make him rethink the situation.

I've been telling you for weeks, it's gonna be Turner at Science Hill. I'll tell you why after it's announced. If something changes with Turner's situation at CN this week then that will change things. Otherwise it's Turner.

Unless I missed something, the banquet produced nothing in regards to any coaching changes. You can however read through those lines, that either JC has not decided on their next coach, I doubt that, or Carter did the right thing and decided to delay any announcement until after the banquet. Very little was said about South's football future. That in itself could be telling? ? ? This was a night for the players and it looked like they enjoyed it very much, especially the seniors.

I have been to the football banquet every year during Carter's regime and this one was no different than any other. He wants the focus on the Senior boys as a reward for their hard work and accomplisments. I thought he handled things well knowing that every one was wondering about the future. Better no comment than to have to back track if things change.

I will say Former players from the 60's, 70's, 80's, and 90's heavily favor Turner. Because they don't participate on the T does not mean they are not contacting the Director of Schools, HS administrators and Turner (AD). Matter of fact, on the inside there is generally strong support for Turner within the coaching staff. This is not anti Overbey but more pro Turner due to his success at CN and how he is remembered at the Hill.

Interesting. Friends have all told me it looks like Carter but here at the end we are again seeing that it may very well be Turner. One would think they would just go ahead and announce it. South fans should be happy if it is Turner, they get to stick with how things are. If the rumors are true, then you don't get the huge change of coaches in Sullivan County.

The bio page CN has about Turner really does speak highly of him.

"Turner returned to his alma mater to coach the offensive line from 1980-84, helping the Eagles win two national championships during that time. Turner then left C-N to serve as offensive coordinator at the University of North Alabama in 1985 and 1986, helping the Lions to a runner-up finish in NCAA Division II in his first season there. He returned to C-N as offensive coordinator from 1987-91 and saw the Eagles win two more national titles. In 1992, Turner returned to the high school ranks. He served as head football coach at Science Hill High School in Johnson City, Tenn., where his squads went 18-6 in two seasons."

Once I see this in perspective, you really might want to pick Turner. He has the experience and ties to the school which could really get the community behind him.

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
