FBCOACH
is lee atkins still n the mix for the job?I had heard that he was? I heard he withdrew his name a few weeks back. I doubt they can afford Smith and will probably end up with a rookie head coach. I could be wrong.
GDIAB
I have heard from several people in Moore County that Smith is, without a doubt, the administrations choice and that he has accepted. I have also heard that not many in MC are happy about the choice. If the school board has to approve new hires, they may stop it after hearing from the voters. He knows he made some mistakes and he has learned from those. He has also learned from every school he has been in. I think he is a better coach now than he has ever been and will be a good fit for MC. As for applying for many jobs, what else could he do when needing a job? I think MC is fortunate to get him,he is not the same coach as many remember,he is just a lot better. How do I know this? I coached with him on two different occasions and he is someone I would always want to be coaching with.

GDIAB
You're right, winning does make everything better. It may be hard to win if he does'nt have player/community support. After the last two coaches, I thought MC might look for a coach with staying power. If I counted right, I think this will be Smith's 8th job in the last 20 years. That about 2 1/2 years at each school. It makes you wonder why he feels the need to move on so often. With a record like that, I'm not sure he will stay long enough to coach his first game at Lynchburg.

The players will be the ones to suffer over all this. I have heard that the players and current coaches at the High School don't like Smith. Some talk of player boycot. Without players it could be tough this season. I think the Principal made a huge error in judement.
blueboy
I agree. From what I have heard, the Principal and Director of Schools jobs may be on the chopping block before long. Seems like board members are not happy. Unhappy players, coaches, parents and supporters spells disaster.
GDIAB
I thought the school board members might have to approve a new hire, but I guess not. If the current paid coaches decide to stay and teach, but not coach, he may not have much help.

It comes somewhere after girls, girls and oh yeah, girls. Moore County has been down for almost ten years now and you're going to turn down a guy that has a State Championship on his resume? Tough crowd.
