Bearden Basketball

After watching my 1st Bearden game of the season last night against Lenoir City, a few observations came to mind.

1.) Last years 5 in, 5 out strategy was done for a reason. With Blevins knowing that he would lose all 5 starters from last years team, playing time for the Sophmores were imparitive. Knowing that he would have to rely on these players for the next two years is why he played them so much. For all the naysayers that said his strategy didn't work last year, I beg to differ.

2.) Jaelan Lawson has got some serious handles. I'm not sure if I have seen a player that quick with the ball in his hands. With that said, sometimes he tends to dribble a little too much, instead of taking it to the rack, but goodness, that dude got him some mad dribbling skills.

3.) Tyler Hood....REAL DEAL!!!! He is smooth all around player. He can play Defense, Rebound, Shoot and can get to the basket anytime that he wants. Its unfortunate for him that he is the only player that LC has that is worth anything. I would love to see him playing with the Bulldogs.

4.) Absence or Dion Fair and Will Winton. Winton should be back in two weeks, which will help the Bulldog depth out tremendously. He is a very good player and will make a big difference for the Bulldogs. It's unfortunate that Dion will not play this year. With him and Lawson at PG, it would have been hard for many teams to defend the quards (with the exception of Fulton). It's a shame that HS players have to lose an entire season, whereas in College, you have the oppurtunity for a medical redshirt. Here is too a speedy recovering for Dion and can't wait to see him back on the court next year.

5.) Rico White and Ty Green can flat out stroke it. With the lack of size for this years Bulldog squad, they will have to rely alot on the outside shooting of these two guys. Both shot the ball extremelly well last night, so if they can keep that up, it could be another special season for the Dogs.

6.) Coaching of the "BLEV". I have always said that to me he is one of the top coaches to ever coach in East Tennessee. He coaches his players discipline and team basketball. This is evident by his 10-0 start to the season, in which he had to replace the Best team in the history of Bearden Basketball. Some players and parents may not like his style, but he has proven time and time again, that he can win ballgames.

7.) Lenoir City's gym is old school....I loved it!!! Love the dimly lit gym and the purple lights. It reminded me of the Doghouse back in my days.

8.) Friday nights game against Catholic should be a fun one to watch. The most intriguing matchup will not be on the court, but rather the bench. I'm going out on a limb and think that Blevins will bust out the Black leather jacket and Hutchins will be rocking the snakeskin cowboy boots. Please bring your cameras ladies and gentleman. This could be one of the greatest photo opps of all time.

I'm out!!!!

good post. must agree with most of your post. coach blevins is a great coach but had maybe too much talent to keep everyone happy last year. that had to be tough. tyler hood is the real deal no question been one of the best players in tennessee the last 3 years. however, to say he's the only kid any good on that team is wrong. maybe they didn't play well last night but there is some skilled players around tyler.

Come on Veer; are you kidding me. I have known you for a while, and you are smarter than that! Who, in their right mind, would throw away a state championship to prepare for the next two years of mediocracy? dry.gif . Plus, everyone knows that Hutch's boots are ostrich skin.

Last years substitution pattern of 5 in, 5 out didn't hurt the Bulldogs too much. They only lost a total of 3 games and only to one team within the state of TN. Unfortunatly, it happended to be in the 1st round of the State Tournament. I'm not sure that you could have done that even with Saleh on your team

Bearden is good in relation to the rest of the district which seems to be very weak (with the exception of West) early. Many of the teams just seem to need some more time to come together and find their personality. Blevins has Bearden prepared early, but I do not think they have the talent (without Winton) to hang with West. I think that the Catholic game will be a real test for Bearden and Catholic, an we will learn a lot about both teams Friday.

I think it did hurt them since well........they lost in the 1st Round of the State Championships!

with your reasoning then, every team in the state in Class AAA, other than White Station last year was hurt by their coaches substitution pattern, since well, they didn't win the state championship.

It didn't help that Blevins had to sit on the bench the entire game.

With that said, that was last year, and I don't want to live in the past. Today is now and the bulldogs are 10-0

This statement is asinine! I would venture to say that some teams lost because the other team was better.

or maybe because a team had a player foul out and then their 4th player get kicked out of the gym. Because this CAT won the SHIP!!!

Not really, since how many teams went 5 in 5 out? How many teams kept their best players on their bench for an extended amount of time and the reason being a set rotation substitution plan? Not many and you said it didn't hurt Bearden hurt much, but when you have all that hype and lose in the 1st round, it does hurt them significantly, whether or not they lost to one team in TN. Just saying.
