Radio guy said Humboldt looked like they threw in the towel when Westwood made the run in the 3rd quarter.... Humboldt did throw in the towl because they have never faced a team like Westwood playing in the hills all season. I don't care if Westwood keep shooting freethrows poor because to let everybody tell it they just beat the best team in 1A by 20. If they keep playing strong D they will be state champs! They must feel like they are snake-bitten or something....very tough luck. Humboldt has been to the State Tournament more times than I can count! They have been dubbed by many, over this same span, as the "favorite" to win it all.......Have they ever won a BB State Championship? 87vikingalumni
Congrats to Westwood! Humboldt team didn't show up or coach, Westwood coach made some great adjustments in the game. The 1-3-1 defence cause H some trouble but coach Bodkin didn't change offence, once congrats to Westwood and bring home the gold ball! CoachT
I left at the end of the first quarter of this game in order to take care of some obligations. I fully expected to get home and see that Humboldt had won, based on what I saw while I was there. Congratulations to Westwood on making the necessary adjustments. frankieD12
Coaching. Coaching. Coaching. It comes down to the same thing every year. Scheduling can be a factor of it, but this year's Christmas Tournament had Dyer County and Bolivar in it. Obviously Humboldt got ran out of the gym against Dyer County, but they played a close game against White Station in Sub-State, so it's not like they were a pushover or anything. The refs let both teams play today, but IMO they let Westwood get away with more than they should have. I'm not blaming the game on the refs though. Humboldt got out hustled and out played. The 2-3 zone was working in the first half, but we came out in the 2nd half with a full court man. This allowed Westwood to get down the floor and score off of the 3 on 2 breaks. Yes, I know that #24 for Westwood got hot from behind the arc, but that wasn't until midway through the 3rd quarter. Also, Humboldt was very lazy getting up and down the court. There are more things that I could put on here about the coaching, but I do not want to bash him on the internet. This might be the first time that I was this disappointed in a Humboldt team at a State Tournament. Now that it is over.....Great season Vikings! You proved me and everyone else wrong that you could make it back to the State Tournament after so many seniors graduated. Congratulations on getting this far! Hopefully we'll be able to get back there next season with the returning players and the talent coming up from Jr. High. Also, congratulations to Westwood on the win. You out-played us and out-worked us every second of the 2nd half. Go bring back that gold ball to West TN!
hbt
I agree that coaching played a part in the lost but players should not have to depend on the coach to spell out every single move. The players should know when to slow it down, speed up, pass, shoot, etc. IMO this team was unprepared, and nowhere as good as the previous hbt teams. Hopefully they will improve a lot this offseason. Why everytime Humboldt lose you people always blame the coach? I didn't here anybody give the coach credit for 59 wins over the last two seasons. When things go bad the 1st thing people on here do is blame that coach. When things go well people say "man those players really did good lastnight" never that coach got them playing really good. Westwood just got more talent and played a stronger schedule all season. Humboldt ran into two teams with more talent and more heart these last two years bottom line.
