Shaq has done a great job with this once terrible program. He will be missed greatly. Good luck as he gets more time with his family now.

“Another one bites the dust” just a wonderin who these mountains folks will get to work as hard as Shaq? I am sure they could get someone out of the stands cause they know more than most coaches.......just ask them! Heck I hear this one "ole man" a talkin about hittin....they should do this....they should do that.....cant understand why the coach is a doin this.......hmmmm I wonder why he aint a coachin cause if you listen to him he knows it all......kind of like "Ole MrNoitAll"

Shaq was an excellent baseball umpire for me before he took the softball coaching job at Grundy Co. There's no doubt he did an excellent job as coach at Grundy Co. He was a little bit controversial with umpires as a coach, like some other good coaches I know. His passion for the game and players caused those problems, but we'll definitely be happy with Shaq back on the umpiring circuit and look forward to working with him as umpires. He'll be an asset to us.

Well bein a little bit controversial ain't all bad if you are takin up for your players and standin up for your beliefs. So many folks don't have the guts to stand up to folks when they are right, and if they do then they will call you call them controversial. To bad we don't have more people who are not afraid to stand up and be controversial if you ask me......which you didnt but it was free. :thumb:

Shaq will probably never get the full credit he deserves for taking the program to where it is today. This from a guy who at some times had little or no help, sometimes had a lot of help only to see it disappear and all the time had far more on his case than he deserved. He had to learn as he went from day one. He is a good guy who did a very good job and deserved a lot better treatment most of the time. He's also human and deserved some of the grief he caught and he'll be the first to tell you that.

Someone asked earlier if Grundy would go out and go after a top quality coach. I'd bet at least $5 that the next coach will be someone already on staff. We've never gone out and searched for a softball coach. I'm sure they won't now. Maybe there's someone on staff that can step in and do a good job. I hope so. But I would not bank on them looking outside.

We have serious trouble looking outside for anything. "Got to watch out for them foreigners." :)

Thank you Shaq for all your hard work over the 9 years. You're a good guy and don't let anyone tell you different. You go pay attention to Sydney because that's what really matters. When they lay me in the ground as long as Hank says I was a good dad I don't really care what anyone else thinks. Won't take long for you to figure out that all that really matters to you is what Sydney thinks.

David.

    • Yes this process is moving slower than I would have expected
    • also was told coady auston applied, he served as defensive coordinator for greenfield under don pitt several years ago before going to Obion county
    • TSSAA restrictions for hiring non-faculty coaches have been removed for over a year at this point. In the past a non-faculty person had to be "grandfathered" by being an assistant coach for five years, being fingerprinted, and having a background check run per TSSAA rules... since those were rescinded, the board of directors for the school district are responsible for any/all restrictions on hiring non-faculty personnel. I guess what I'm saying to you is that if you really wanted what you posted, it's already possible as long as your local BOE will allow for it.
    • stop it, rlh. you’re gonna get me all misty eyed and sentimental.    i see seven fairly regularly. ….but slim shady, that’s like spotting bigfoot on main street. you just hope he doesn’t spot you.
    • Are you trying to say you didn't find Seven and ShadySlim going at it?
