State was a blast! I watched CCS and Boyd-Buchannan have to finish it in Shots from the Mark and saw Hendersonville High take out a Centennial team with no quit in them. The HHS/CHS was an interesting match-up of very contrasting styles.

To re-cap:

HHS scores early in the game on a beautiful cross that gets finished nicely on the back post. Centennial takes advantage of HHS basking in the glow of the first goal and Tyson immediatly launches a rocket from outside the 18 that hits nothing but net. After that it is alot of possession by HHS and counter by Centennial. Ends 1-1 in regulation. HHS scores 3 additional goals in OT all because of nice passing that end up in goals to the back post. HHS then makes sure all their seniors get in the game in the final OT. Final goal is scored by Centennial with time expiring.

A beautiful game for HHS fans in less than favorable conditions. The conditions did not matter when all was said and done. The ref gave HHS maybe 5 yellow cards and two reds but they handled that adversity and kept their composure.

That brings up a great question, Barca.

What are the rules for Red Cards for TSSAA? I know HHS received at least one, and yet after a few minutes they were back up to 11 players and played that way throughout the rest of the game.

If it is a "soft red" (which is from 2 yellows) you may sub for that player (though the player that got the card is finished). The only reason a team has to play down is for a "hard red" or "straight red".

    • Winfree's senior year was the season she needed to secure more college interest. That opportunity was taken away from her. A lot of false assumptions can be made about what happened and what the options are. Unfortunately, the former coach and administration did not allow Winfree to have due process. A lawsuit was filed for a reason, and it will run its course by people who conduct discovery and take depositions. Unless the parties settle out of court, a lot of the pertinent issues will come to the public surface. I wrote about many of the issues here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/11/17/grounds-for-investigation-and-suspension/ I interviewed Winfree after she was dismissed from the team and wrote about it here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/12/01/a-new-interview-with-sable-winfree/ Winfree had been on teams in Warren County since the fourth grade and never been dismissed from a team. The real questions are why was Winfree dismissed from the team, and why the administration backed a coach whom they did not rehire.
    • What is the hold up here? I have not heard anything in weeks. Are they waiting for the right person or is something else going on?
    • Per usual, we'll be hard to beat in the regular season, I'm sure. It's the post season that I'm more worried about, specifically the coaches. Maybe they'll be able to make some adjustments that will keep the momentum in our favor. How's Grays recovery coming along?
    • Something don’t add up here a college coach is not going to turn away a good player they need just because they didn’t get along with their high school coach
