Shane Salley has a great arm and speed. He still has some pretty good receivers after losing the seniors. Sonni Young was a starting freshman last year and caught touchdowns including huge ones in the playoffs. Very tall and lengthy, able to jump well, fast. People are questioning this year's team after losing a lot of players, but the talent is still there. They are just improved more as a team this year. The defense is much better. They scrimmaged DCA and Davidson Academy and gave them all they could handle.

Was that a 7 on 7 game?

No. They had a full scrimmage a week ago. Dekalb starters did not score and Gordonsville ran the ball pretty much at will. I know that Dekalb is putting a new defensive system and the boys are young and still learning. They should look better as the season progresses and they learn the system the new DC is putting in.

The defense should improve. It has been known that the rushing defense is DC's weakness. Some games last season they would step up but it was inconsistent. Hopefully this year they can buckle down and stop the run. The past two years there wasn't a team we played that could pass as well on us as we did on them, but when we shut that down the run game would kill us. They have to acknowledge that, which I'm sure they have as well as others. They would have been pretty dangerous last year with a good defense. Especially the year before. That is what scrimmages are for. Hopefully after the Jamboree tonight against Shelbyville they should be fixing some issues on the defense.

What exactly were the outcomes of those scrimmages with DCA and DA?

DA @ Dekalb

Both teams traded back and forth for a few. DA 1st team 2-0 against Dekalb 1st team. DA RB did not dress. He will go Friday Night against Cascade.

I have a lot of respect for Dekalb. Great group of people that love the game of H.S. Football. There QB had a lot of dropped balls. Catch first and then run.......they will improve a lot including their running game. We wish them the best.
