TSSAA trouble for Gibbs?

After speaking to a TSSAA ref last night... in a friendly "shooting the breeze" conversation with one nameless ref... He said that someone had contacted the TSSAA about all of the billboards that have been put up in Knox County congratulating the three way tie District Champions from Gibbs High school on their "it's about time" great season. There's one on Lovell Road, another one in Halls, and there might be more in town that I'm not aware of. The question of the violation is does the entire team have a required Knox County school's media release form signed and notarized prior to the team picture being displayed. This could be a financial fine that could really hurt Gibbs as well as the billboard being removed by the end of the week to avoid litigation.

 

My question is why does the TSSAA even care? He simply replied that whenever a high profile attorney contacts your local school system and the TSSAA, they're going to conduct an investigation. He said look for it to come out in the media by Wednesday... I just wanted to say you heard it here first.

 

Moral of the story... Carma Sucks! Don't hang billboards in communities outside of the Gibbs' school zone (like 0-10 Halls) gloating about being a district champion... especially when you actually are a co-champion with 2 other schools. Success for the Gibbs football program might only happen every other Decade, but don't ruin or tarnish it by celebrating too early! I would imagine a local attorney wouldn't fish around in these waters unless he knew there were fish to fry.

Seems tacky to do it this early with the playoffs still underway but I wouldn't see anything against the rule. It reminds me of the game last night when the announcer mentioned the hosts won this year's district title (three teams had one loss, but they won it on the tiebreaker) at least 20 times and his team lost.

Even if the accusations are dismissed and the attorney drops his case... No one wants the stigma of a TSSAA violator giving your program a black eye and the reputation of a rule breaking program. On the other hand... This is a big violation in the eyes of Knox County School. This is a situation that can be viewed as a precedent... I'm just not sure it gets overlooked by Knox county schools. They wont allow Gibbs High School to break rules and treat the media release form as an optional formality they is preferred and not really required.

They are up on electronic billboards all over Knoxville. They rotate among 10-15 different ads.

 

Who the heck cares? When's the last time Gibbs won a district title in football, even if they shared it? Let them enjoy it.

I thought it was quite humorous! I mean I would understand if it was a STATE TITLE but its a darn district title hahahahaha When I first saw it, I had to pull off to the side to make sure I was seeing it. hahaha..

I have seen the billboards and i thought it was kinda funny, they dont win one very often let them celebrate, lol, the really funny part is photoman from fulton and turtle from AE are the ones commenting about it, this post will probaly get interesting, shoot let gibbs have some fun it may be 20 more years before they win another. lol

I mean, as my coach used to tell us, "Act like you won it before!" I mean they're acting like they've never won a DISTRICT title before!! Also, I don't recall Gibbs putting their Baseball or Softball teams on a billboard for winning District or even the State! SMH at Gibbs hahaha

I haven't seen the billboards, I agree its a bit early to put them up, I don't think its any big deal but should have been more sensitive to where they were posted. Question? Is the problem with the TSSAA that they used a photo of the team? If they had merely used the Gibbs logo without the photo would it have caused trouble with the TSSAA? Just curious.

I'm not sure of the TSSAA rule however, I think if they just would've put the "G" on the boards, that would've been ok. But this Billboard has the Coaches, Team Members, and cheerleaders in it. My Roadrunners should've took care of business...

 

I'm just being curious, Who paid for those billboards? hahah never mind Kenny Chesney hahaha

It was a great year for the Eagles. I anxious to see if they can do it again this year. It will be a big suprise if they can get back to the Playoffs again. I just don't see it happening.
