Clarksville NE @ HENDERSONVILLE

Quarterfinals in quadrant 3. Common opponents include:

Beech(NE victory 28-14)(HHS victory 16-15)

Henry County(NE loss 24-14)(HHS victory 24-10)

NE defeated Hendersonville last year in round one of the playoffs, 27-24 in triple overtime.

Both are fundamentally sound teams. HHS has great senior leadership, a stout line on both sides of the ball, and players with a lot of heart. Plus they have quite possibly the loudest student section that I have ever heard, creating difficult offensive possessions for the opposing team. NE has top notch speed on their side. Other than that, I dont really know much about them. Should be a dog fight at Memorial Stadium. I gotta pull for my Commandos in this one!

Congrats to both Northeast and Hendersonville. Northeast pulled out a nail-biter 6-3 over Clarksville and I heard Clarksville had the ball on the 1 yd line with 3 mins to go in the 4th and got stopped..wow Last years game between these two should fire Hendersonville up. They knocked out the tougher HC, now time to regroup, prepare for NE, and take care of business. They have speed as we already found out last year and how they knocked off Beech this year. Gonna be a good one..

I was a student at Hendersonville a few decades ago and my kids are students there now. We have had teams in the past thirty years who were contenders -- including the 1988 team who almost took the state title. In all those years, this years' Commandos team is generating the most excitement I've ever seen at that school. The passion among the team, the coaches, the band, the WAR TEAM (best student section in the state), the parents and the administration is amazing. I think this team has a genuine shot at going to Cookeville in a few weeks.

Although I do believe most people to pick Hendersonville as a slight advantge with being at home I don't believe that will get into the Commandos heads. This team is focused and almost have a sense of tunnel vision. They have bought in to what the coaches have taught them and play weeek in and week out for one another. They remain focused at practice and learn the game plan, watching as much film as possible. And the best thing is they only play for one more week. The game friday night is going to be a good one. Hendersonville welcomes all clarksville and surrounding sumner county fans to attend. Its going to be a packed house and the field is going to look beautiful.

Go Commandos.

If the game against Northeast is close at all, the War Team will give HHS the edge. We showed up to HCHS with not even half of our regular crowd and still out numbered and out yelled their students. Our student section is the best in the state and we are pumped about this Commandos team. The HHS War Team Rocks! Go Commandos!!!!

Wow, win a couple of playoff games and suddenly you start declaring parts of your program as best in state.....I'm amazed that you have been able to travel around the entire state this year to survey all student sections. After you win this week is it going to be best band in the state?......best concession stand in the state?.....best parking in the state?....

By the way, I do think you will win 20-10. Good luck Commandos

Commandos win!!!! Townsend Dye(2) Howell Priddy Kelly Brown Grey have all been playin football for a long time. I am proud to see them try to reach there goal of being state champions. (Just like Beech did last year). I would like to see Commandos win it all because i know all these boys and how much they put into the game. I also would like to see the State Title stay in district 9aaa. It would make some big games in the future. So Joe, Troy, Elijah, David, Brady, Whit,Chad, and Hunter do it like you have all your life and leave it all on the field. I know i am forgetting someone but i am getting older. I am rooting for you guys.

I will say you brought one of the better student sections to that side in awhile. No way you outnumbered the student sections. The band was loud we never heard your students much. You did have more to yell about!!

That said I think HHS wins this one but NE could surprise you.

Lets not get ahead of ourselves here. Northeast is a good football team. Just because Henry Co beat them doesnt mean this one is given to us. Yeah we got a good band, war team, and whatever. Thats great support and that pumps up the team yea it helps but this is about the football team. They upset Beech 2 weeks ago and last year knocked us out 1st round. We have to be well prepared and focused like we have been the past 2 weeks. My prediction is that Hendersonville will win this game but i'm definately not looking passed NE. Two good football teams, HHS looking for revenge from last season, gonna be another good one

NE would not be a surprise win. HHS knows they have a great team rolling in friday.

    • I've always been a football fan first and then if you have a band that's awesome. No question that DB has one of the best bands in the country and the whole region should attend at least one DB game just to see their band. I don't know if Nick Saban could come to Kingsport and build a football program that could match the Dobyns Bennett band's success. That said,as mentioned before, a couple of things would have to change in order for the Tribe to just win a state championship on the field.Besides a program that starts from the peewee teams and goes all the way to J Fred with all coaches and weight training { in time }on the same page. Sometimes it also takes a little luck like the 1998 Vols .There are a lot of great athletes at a lot of big schools around the state and just because you want something doesn't mean your going to build a program like Alcoa has. Yes,start at the bottom and have guys that are quality coaches teaching at every level is 100% the first step. Parents can make it a lot easier by getting their young athletes into an early start with conditioning and weights as well when they are old enough to lift.If your son is a man in the weight room before he gets to DB , then it won't take a "Dobbs" coach to make him competitive against other schools athletes when it comes to strength.
    • Dyersburg scrimmaged South Gibson last week
    • A complete cultural change happened at Greeneville and the administration and community opened up their checkbooks.  What a lot of people don't know is Ballard was Zeller's OC for many years and stopped coaching for two years because Zeller and Ballard didn't see eye to eye on some things.  Zeller lead Greeneville to it's first ever Semi Final appearance in 2000 and lost 28-12 at Maryville and had them in the Quarter Finals in 2002 and 2003.  Z was a great coach but lost some control when it came to making workouts mandatory. (He learned from that Mistake and it was at LC when i coached with him.).  Z was let go going into my Senior Year and was replaced by Steve McCurry who was the one that turned the program around.  Steve had won a 4a state championship at AC Reynolds in Asheville and made the administration completely redo the weight room with new equipment, had a football period at the end of the school day to lift, started devil camp, and brought in coaches like Danny Bentley (Still the OL coach), Ballard as the OC, Cody Baugh (QB coach and still there), and even Spradlen who is Greeneville's head coach now as the DB's Coach.  McCurry only coached for two seasons at Greeneville and took a team that had a losing record the year before and finished my Senior Year making it to the Quarters and having a 10-3 record and then followed it up with a Semi Final appearance the next year with an 11-3 record and back to back conference championships.  Loved McCurry to death but the recession hit and the story i heard was he was still buying new equipment for the team that the Principal didn't authorize and his response was "I don't answer to you and only to Niswonger and Bewley" (Two huge donors).  That was it for him and they Promoted Ballard shortly after that.   Greeneville had always been relevant ever since the the late 70's under Coach Fred Sorrell's.  Since Sorrell's took over in 1977 Greeneville overall winning percentage is over 76%.  The biggest reason people might not have thought Greeneville was "Good" until Ballard was Greeneville always played up Classification wise and could never get over the hump. (When there were 3 classifications we played 3a, when it went to 5 we played 4a).  Greeneville is the largest its ever been with 953 students and where playing teams 2 or 3 times there size back in the day (I had a little over 800 kids in the school when i graduated in 2008).  Other teams always would know they would be sore after a game but depth took over and never won a Championship until Greeneville played in the classification the TSSAA actually assigned them. You had names like Dustin Moore (1993 Mr Football for 3a and who Phillip Fulmer said was one of the greatest athletes he ever recruited), James "Mud Turtle" Mayes, Brigham Lyons, Byron Gillespie, Frankie Debusk (National Champion Qb at Furman with GQ), Jasmine Lowery, Cody Baugh, The Greenway Brothers, Joe Watson (Furman), etc.  Now the cultural is from the Pee Wee league up and you grow up as a young kid wanting to wear the Greene and White.  Here is a really good link when it comes to anything Greeneville Football related. https://greenevillefootball.com/   I also don't coach anymore.  Z told me i was to smart with how the school systems are ran these days and ended up going into real estate in Knoxville which has been a great decision for my life.
    • Yes, they will. I'm wondering what kinds of strides Sale Creek will make heading into the second season under Coach Fitz.
