From Pulaski Citizen

Breaking News: GCHS head football coach David O'Connor is reconsidering his move to Lincoln County after the Fayetteville City School Board voted last night to add a high school to its system. See tonight's edition of the Pulaski Citizen for more details. Says 95% sure staying at GCHS...

Wow! I read the article on there website. This does not sound good for the future of the Falcons, in more ways the one.

From an outsider looking in... It may be rough sailing for Lincoln County athletics once the new city high school becomes a reality. In the short run it will be rough, in the long run, both schools can be good IF the TSSAA gets LC into a smaller classification but until that happens, a lot of the talent will go to the new city high school. Of course, it takes time to develop a new program. I have heard a rumor that the former Marshall County head coach may be the new head coach at the City high school. I guess it is way too early to know at this point. Good luck to both schools, this should be interesting.

Wow. The Fayetteville City school board thinks it's a good idea to create a city high school...in the middle of a depressed economy...and will offer open enrollment...so county kids that go to the city school will be ostracized by other county kids...county kids will be ostracized by city kids...city taxes will go up to support the redundant costs associated with extra teachers and school administrators....

I don't blame O'Connor for seriously reconsidering the move - things will be chaotic for several years - only an idiot would walk into a situation like that. All Lincoln County sports will suffer, along with Lincoln County academics as the coaches and teachers jockey back and forth.

Hopefully the voters in the city will recognize the arrogance of the Fayetteville city school board members and vote every single one of them out of office in the next election.

Stupid is as stupid does...stupid arrogance is immeasurably worse. :(

I agree with you 100% jabbo unfortunately the city of Fayetteville has always marched to their own drummer and do what they want and worry about the consequences later.

We will have to watch and see how this plays out, but I believe from what I've read and heard O'Connor is staying at Giles.

Very well said Jabbo. I'm so disappointed with the city system. I think we have such a unique situation in this county that everyone has the opportunity to go to school with everyone else, make new friendships and contacts that will last a lifetime. Just as you said, I think this will only cause friction in the community. Instead of an entire community rallying around one school, fans money and support will all be divided.

Now doesn't all this throw quite a spotlight on the opening game LC vs GC next year :popcorneater:

This game probably won't happen now.

Its official. The search for a new coach has begun. :thumb: There were 55 applicants. Now there is 54. They had narrowed it down to top 10. Now there is a top 9.

Good luck on your search. :popcorneater:

GO FALCONS!!!!!

    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
