I am not sure what the heck you are talking about, but I am sure that having the newspaper call out some "mouthy fan" is the crux of your comments. You should really take that up with the writer at the Times Free Press. I assume you are the mouthy fan based on this post.

I can only imagine the feeling of being sat down and talked to by the administration of the Ravenwood High School about the less than mature behavior at a High School Championship event. I would not really know as I have never been asked to leave any kind of event for bad behavior. Throw in the apology made by the coach of the team on behalf of the same behavior and I see where you are hurt by the entire donneyBrook that could have ensured had it taken its full course. Add the local Sheriff into the mix and you have a real mess on your hands.

Is that what you were looking for from me? Because all I had done before this post was share a story from the on line Chattanooga Free Press, no comments and no analysis of who was or was not at fault. I do wonder why anybody from the fan base of the Bears competition would have anything to say, I mean that particular individual match was not decided in favor of the Bears.

Someone needs to look into the mirror for the real cause of all this commotion.

To all:

Coach Peck and I, as well as others involved with Bradley Wrestling, have communicated back and forth this morning and there are thankfully no hard feelings on either side. Coach Peck is a great coach and runs a top-notch, classy program. His hard work, dedication, and commitment are obviously paying off. Just before the match started, I was picking his brain about his "Raptor Camp" that he puts on for his kids because I would like for us, BC Wrestling, to incorporate it into our Summer Training Program. We have the up-most respect for him and his team. Otherwise, Coach Logsdon would not have scouted the Raptors the first two matches of the Duals. We have said for several seasons now that Ravenwood is very well coached, always in good condition, and not to be overlooked.

As far as my incident goes, I was wrong. I should never have approached the stands. After escorting our wrestler back to the bench area (so he wouldn't throw a fit and hurt and/or embarrass himself), I heard what was going on and listened to two different insults/taunts to him before I acted inappropriately. After the second insult, my temper/emotions got the best of me. I should have taken the issue to Mr. Reeves, Mr. Childress, and/or Mr. Parker and allowed them to handle it. For that I am sorry. I gave the TSSAA, the sport of wrestling, and BC Wrestling a black eye. I also caused undo distraction for my team. As Mr. Childress told me, I am to be held to a higher standard. I 100% agree with that and am thankful that I was only dismissed for the Finals. I have been coaching for eight seasons now and I have discovered that there are still lessons to learn. This weekend, I learned a very valuable one. I apologize to all who saw my lapse in judgement, the Ravenwood fans, coaches, wrestlers as well as the fans/parents of the BC wrestlers, as well as anyone else in attendance who witnessed the circus. I hope that my future actions and decisions will replace the negative impression that I left Saturday afternoon at The Cow Palace.

Thank you,

Ben Smith

BCHS Wrestling

Ben, you did the right thing. As coaches we are their to protect our wrestlers as if they were our own kids. Some people seem to forget that part of it, unless they or their kids are on the receiving end. That's what your parents want to see, and that's what your kids want to see. You putting it on the line for them, as you ask them to do each and every day, for you and the school. This political crap about "you being held to a higher standard" is just that, crap. You are responsible for these kids safety and well being while they are under your care. That is exactly why you reacted the way you did. That's how I would expect you to react if you coached my kid. I'd say most would agree if it were their kid being attacked.

I for one applaud your actions.

Come on RC if it were your kid you would be the one on his butt before he got a word out. You are such a soft hearted and kind spoken man to your son....lol

Seriously we all are there in a position to stand up for the kids were in charge of protect them until they are back under their parents care.

Great admiration for PECK and SMITH about the whole situation. OVER and DONE let it rest.

I observed Coach Smith and the excitement that the Bradley wrestlers had for him after the big finals win as he was on the Bradley bus waiting it out. Coach Smith can coach and mentor my kids anytime.

As for the fan, all you did was divert the attention away from an outstanding match between two outstanding wrestlers.

Coach Smith,

Thank You for your apology and I was buying it until the last line referencing the AG/Expo center as a "Cow Palace, showing a total lack of respect for TSSAA and Williamson County. Williamson County is fotunate to have such a facility to support there youth and accomodating 4H, athletic and graduation events and many more activites. My sons have competed in many national wrestling tournaments is similar facilities and the sponsors were glad to have their use. If the facilities are good enough for a national competition I believe they are good enough for the State of Tennessee and its wrestling participants. It is also a slap in the face to those people that have put in countless hours to put it on for our athletes.

Kudos to TSSAA for requiring our coaches, athletes, parents, and fans to higher level. Coaches and parents, what EXAMPLE are we setting for our youth with our actions. I don't believe coach or fan/s involved this weekend were setting a good example. We can all learn from it. Lets move on and have a GREAT individual state tournament!!!

I don't think anyone is downing the Williamson County Ag/Expo Center by calling it the "Cow Palace" It is a term that has been used on this board for the last two years. Coach Smith was just using a term he has read on CoachT. It is just a nick name that is easier to say than the Williamson County AG/Expo Center.

I have enjoyed the Williamson County Ag/Expo Center. Parking is reasonable. Concessions are reasonable. It is clean. The seating is comfortable. The tournament was on time.

The Williamson County Ag.Expo Center is much better than many tournament locations I have attended.

I can't wait to return to the Williamson County Ag/Expo Center in a few weeks. I hope I get a chance to meet Coach Peck. As with Coach Smith, he is a class act.

See you all at the Williamson County Ag/Expo Center!

I agree with Mr Rocky Mtn High, Coach Smith ( who I dig ) everyone knows it's a Cow and Pig Palace. To slight the bacon producing animal, is a slap in the face to such greats as Wilbur the Pig, Miss Piggy and the short fat ASST coach who use to be at Red Bank and Hixson.

Ben is without a doubt my 2nd favorite coach and would have loved for my boys to have spent summers with him learning how to throw around weights.

Talk about anal retention. Lighten up guy. I'm sure gentle Ben has nothing but praise and admiration for the agricultural landmark commonly known as the " cow palace ".

Bear Kitty,,,,,,I did not think we were going to count that one,,,,,,we had an agreement to keep the ND girls out of this.

And any discussion about the name calling of a barn is way out of my pay grade. But, If it has a dirt floor and they have rodeo events in it,,,,,,it is a barn.

Coach Peck, ... What a great post. Thank you for taking the time. Very refreshing to see such sincere language in trying to smooth out a rough spot. Same can be said of my friend and assistant, Coach Smith. Well done.

I don't post often on CoachT, but since I have now, let me share my first reaction when I heard that we had Ravenwood in our half of the bracket at the State Duals. I told my wrestlers that no one should even think about looking past you guys. Well coached and hungry to succeed. It was all the motivation I needed to scout you in both your first and second round matches. I remember last season at the Traditional State tournament. The reaction of your guys when Mr. Chege won his State Title was emotional to watch... True joy. He had broken the ice for future Ravenwood Champions, and everyone knew it. True, I'm a Coach, but I'm also a fan of our great sport and all of it's athletes and their struggle to succeed. Good luck to you in the coming weeks.
