The Truth...

I will hear parents of 8 year olds around the baseball fields talking about getting their boys private hitting lessons or pitching lessons. When I hear this I can't help but think, did Joe DiMaggio get hitting lessons when he was 8, or did Sandy Koufax get pitching lessons. All of that extra teaching won't get a kid to high school ball if he doesn't have some natural ability and the "want to".

Those are the kids that approached by privates and handed checks. Sorry, couldnt pass that up.

I have been reading with interest because, though I have no direct connection with MBA, I have always respected the way they presented themselves. More importantly, I had the opportunity to work with Coach Owens and Coach Bennett from a media standpoint and found them to be principled men of character.

Saying that, the issue of MBA leaving the TSSAA is a conversation I never had with either. Having grown up in Nashville, I am a bit ashamed to admit ignorance to the event. Can you fill in dates, reasons, etc., that caused MBA to pull away? Just from an historical standpoint, I'd be very interested.

Thanks

I have some information for you, but since it's not really germane to the topic, drop me an email at kwoodr@bellsouth.net.

    • I have no clue if Derek tried to talk some since into his dad or not about staying here. All he is going to accomplish is going from the oven to the frying pan. If I were the coach all Ale would freze over before I set back and watched one of my good players leave without a fight.
    • If this is true, South Gibson is taking a big chance. Passing on an experienced coach for a guy who has never coached at the high school level is a high risk move, especially in that district and region.
    • Dorian Eskridge was HVA's best back, 2011
    • Jo Byrns was a very solid team last year. Imo, I thought they presented the biggest challenge for us on our path to winning it all last year. I expect them to be in the conversation and one of the final few teams playing in Murfreesboro
    • I'm not sure you understand anything if you think DB's career and AD's career are comparable.  This is a terrible take.   Not to slight AD, He was a good player and he got better as he matured after high school.   But Desean had over 8,000 yards in HS and was a two-time Mr. Football.
