3 AAA District Tournament

Anderson County ran into an inspired Oak Ridge team first round, Lane pitched well OR won 4-1 beating Durand and then had to face Halls with Painter pitching in the second round and were shut down 10-0.

 

Halls made numerous errors in Clinton game with Clinton, at one point having 7 runs with 2 hits. Beeler was pulled in the 5th with score 4-3 and Clinton with 1 hit. Halls put a freshman in for rest of game losing 9-4. Against Powell, Corcione struggled first inning but made it into the 4th inning down 3-2 due to errors giving Powell 2 unearned runs. H Owenby pitched well. Errors again plagued Halls in the 4th and Beeler didnt come in until Powell hit a bomb making it 6-2. Powell was dining on raw meat from that point and put the game out of reach.

 

Powell was cruising against HV 4-0 till some errors and aggressive baserunning brought HV back. HV runs the bases so much better than any other team in the district. HV wins 5-4. Powell with Skeen pitching well gets down to Oak Ridge due to errors and misplays. OR kicks it around and Powell regains lead 5-3. OR hits Latham pretty well and uses some aggressive baserunning to regain the lead and push it to 8-5 with several clutch hits. Powell threatened but loses 8-5.

 

A summary: brackets played a huge roll with higher seeds stumbling early. Powell and Halls both hit it well but had mediocre to atrocious defense. They both had very good 1-2 pitchers with inconsistent arms past the top 2. AC did not have Williams for much of the season and just did not have the bats.

 

A big congrats to HV for winning the tournament. Best coach in district. Very solid and well played by their team.

Congrats to OR for making Region. Several gutty performances by them.

Congrats to Clinton for knocking off Halls and almost making it to where OR is.

The coaches of those 3 teams did a great job this year.

 

Bottom line: Solid defense and timely hitting are tough to beat.

Does not surprise me, when you have an outstanding young coach with college experience giving the young men good information then the end result will most likely be a positive.
