What is Bartlett High School thinking?

Recommended Posts

Why in the world would Bartlett High School hire an assistant freshman coach with one year of experience as their new head varsity football coach? Really? Are they serious? How could he possible be ready for 5A football as a head coach? Whoever made this decision needs to have his head examined! I sure hope they hire several great assistant coaches or else they will be in serious trouble. Memphis and Shelby County must be completely clueless!

Just a few of the names that applied and did NOT even receive an interview:

Wayne Randall

Jeff McFerran

Randy White

Crutchfield (Wooddale and former Bartlett player)

Alex Cain (Forrest City, Ark. and former Bartlett player)

Tom NeSmith

Jason Curtis (Arlington assistant)

Good grief!! Where do you get your information? I can guarantee you that half the names on that list have more sense than to attempt the Bartlett situation. It would be easier to turn a battleship around in a bathtub than get that program to a competetive level on a yearly basis! Makes for great reading but needs to be filed under "fiction!"

An assistant coach, an administrator and a parent confirmed all of these names except for Wayne Randall and Randy White. Supposedly, the other two applied as well according to an outsider. There were other names as well, but those were a few that surprised me. A couple of these coaches would not deny or confirm their interest.

Well...I knew you had to be off base with some of these names. Randy would not be interested period! Wayne is working in Arkansas and drawing retirement in Tn. No way he would take a significant pay cut to get back in the coaching ranks especially at Bartlett. Crutchfield is satisfied where he is and has better athletes at Wooddale. Good luck to the Bartlett Panthers!

How Lynard Crutchfield is not the Bartlett HC baffles me! He is a Bartlett graduate with a track record of success in not only the city but also the same district (cordova). amazing! Shouldnt be surprised this is the same school

that has ruined a once proud boys basketball program as well!

    • RR, you might remember. Didn’t someone hide the kicking shoe that game? It seems I remember we had missed a kick the week before, and we needed all the points we could get. We thought we had a better chance going for two, so $?&@$ hid the shoe after the first miss that game. No one on our sideline looked for it very hard.
    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
