BDF36
A high school student who plays football for Tri-Cities Christian School remains medically sedated, four days after suffering a game-related injury. Tucker Montgomery lost consciousness in the fourth quarter of the Golden Eagles’ game in Kingsport Friday night. The wide-receiver and outside linebacker, who is now the focus of many prayers, remains in an area hospital tonight. Friends and family members have created a “Pray for Tucker Montgomery†Facebook page. It already has more than 260 followers offering up prayers for the teen. “He underwent emergency brain surgery Friday night to stop a bleed on the brain,†the creator of the page said. “He has been medically sedated since then. Tucker is responding to stimulants and managed to move both arms & legs yesterday. They will most likely begin to gradually wake him up later on this week….He needs everyones (sp) prayers!â€Â Rob Rogan, a local physician assistant, volunteered at the game and witnessed the injury. “The ball was tipped in the air and (Montgomery) spun around and caught it and turned up field and got hit,†Rogan said. “It was helmet-to-helmet contact and then his head hit the ground. You could tell he had an injury…I started to try and get up to help him get off the field, he walked three steps and then went limp…he never regained consciousness. It was a clean hit. It looked like he should be done for the game, but it didn’t look that serious.†In a statement, Tri-Cities Christian Schools Administrator Melody Archer said after the injury, Rogan quickly assessed Tucker’s injuries, including the possibility of a concussion. “In order to protect the privacy of Tucker and his family, we are not able to share any medical details,†Archer said. “However, we are assured by medical professionals who examined Tucker that he received, and is continuing to receive, the proper care that should be administered after and injury of this type…we join all of the community in praying for Tucker and his family.†According to Archer, Montgomery’s family is asking that all cards, letters, and phone calls expressing concern to go through Tri-Cities Christian Schools. Montgomery is a student at University School on the campus of East Tennessee State University, but plays football for Tri-Cities Christian.
