Halls is starting to find their stride offensively, but still doesn't have much of a defensive presence. That might not be a major issue in this game, however, since the Beavers don't have the most dynamic offense. Karns' defense is both talented and fundamentally sound, and I think that will be the difference in this game. I'll take Karns by a TD.

The Red Devils pour it on this week. They take the Beavers out to the pond and drown them by 14 pts. How might you ask, KJ is going to be calling the shots on offense and defense. Go you Devils Go!!!

Is this a positive thing devilsden? Calling both sides or not, he still lacks the knowledge of motivating his team instead of degrading them.

I know this post is for the game, but does anyone know what Jason Julian the great player from Halls in the 80's is doing now? Is he some kin to the current coach?

Jason is Kevin's younger brother. Jason lives in St. Louis and is in the ministry (not a Pastor, but works with a ministry group) there.

I say Karns wins 21-0...Karns defense is hungry and will overwhelm Halls offense.

From an observer with no dog in the hunt:

Halls offense has gotten better as the season has gone on. I wouldn't count on overwhelming it as you believe they will.

Plus, Karns' offense has a tendency to turn the ball over. Halls' offense is good enough to take advantage of short field opportunities.

I expect this to be a really good, and close, football game.

HA HA yea right....lol Its Oakridge and AC :thumb:

Depends on how you define "best", Space. The OR/AC game is obviously a big rivalry game, but most would probably say that 6-0 Powell and 4-1 Hardin Valley might be the "feature" game of district play this week. After all, both are unbeaten in the district (Powell 4-0 and HVA 3-0), and the only two teams left who haven't lost in district play yet. That game is for the district lead.

I see all three of the games mentioned - Powell/HVA, Halls/Karns, and OR/AC being "best" type games, depending on how you define it and what interest you have in it.

And the 4th game - Central and Clinton - is an important game for those two teams, too. Somebody is going to get their first win of the season.

I'm with HTV. The "best" game this week is all a matter of opinion, but for Halls I think it's one of the most important. After beating a down Clinton team in week 1 Halls has yet to win a game, even though that's an improvement from last years 0-10 season it still should not be enough to satisfy the coaches and players.

I think that with the offense continuing to improve for the Red Devils, they could capitalize off of turnovers and even work their way around a maybe over aggressive Karns defense and that could be enough to pull out a W if the defense can hold it together.

But with both teams coming out hungry tonight, and both with subpar defenses, get ready for a barn burner...

Halls-35 Karns-28

    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
    • All these college signees went yo other schools for 3 years, were getting college offers then transferred to Bearden. It’s not like this staff did much to develop them.    The BBall coaches son and the Seymour transfer were some of the most talented QBs in the region, and you guys developed them into QBs who might complete one pass a game.
