Maxoutlh
back to reality ... big iced cupcake schedule just got eaten by covington .... told u sooooooooooooo What is reality? That OC lost a close game to a good Covington squad in a game that could have easily went the other way?? Reality is, if OC and Cov played 10 times i would bet it would be 5-5 or 6-4/4-6, something of that nature. Reality is, OC is just as talented as Cov, it is not like they got blown out. They made several mistakes and questionable play call and they paid for it. Reality is, you sound bitter coming on here and talking about OC's "cupcake" schedule. Reality is, you sound like you don't know much about football in general. If you want to talk about "reality", there is your reality check. Please, take your bitterness elsewhere. OC is an extremely talented team just as Covington is. Covington just came out on top on this night. Just to be clear here, I'm not trying to take anything away from Covington. They played very sound football and played their game. Congrats to Covington for a very well played game. Very athletic team. Good luck the rest of the year and hope to meet you guys again! CHARGERFAN
I want to say to Obion County fans, players, and coaches that you have a fine team there. I thought that your running back was excellent, and your receivers and quarterback were as good as I had expected them to be. I really think the game swung when Covington scored in the a last 44 seconds of the first half to bring us within one score (22-14). They say that football is a game of inches, and our receiver juggled the ball as he made the catch. If he drops that, perhaps OC has too much lead for us to overcome. Best wishes as you finish the season and enter the playoffs. You will advance if you play the kind of football you did tonight. To my Chargers, this victory is how we need to play every week to get a good playoff seed and to advance more than a game or two. The sky is the limit for y'all if you keep your heads on straight. Oh, and I had already e-mailed the Commercial Appeal that if we won or played a close game tonight, then we deserve to be in their Dandy Dozen next week. volfan007
What a great game it was...I'm glad I went to it. Well, Covington is very quick and fast. They're a little bit undersized, but did I tell you they were quick and fast? lol They have a good team. Obion Co. did waaay too much arm tackling tonight....the D has to really get tougher if the Rebs are gonna go very far in the playoffs. Now, their QB was good...he can really throw the ball. The RB, Fair, is the real deal...wow. The Rebs have a good team, too. But, the spread offense showed its weakness tonight. The spread is a great offense, until you get into the Red Zone....then it tends to have trouble knocking it into the end zone. The Rebs settled for feld goals too much tonight.... It'll be interesting to see how far these 2 teams go in the playoffs..

REALITY IS.... over 500 yards rushing put up on your defense tonight by not one or two but several backs from covington. Was is it a chocolate cupcake or a vanilla one that you had? You have some goods players on the team but they seem to fold when the going gets tough.
redbirdfan
A Lot of things were exposed tonight in Troy as a very quick, talented Covington Charger team hung 50 points on an Obion Central squad that came in only allowing 12 points per game. The big question concerning OC coming into this season is how well they can defend the run. The Rebel defense allowed over 500 rushing yards as well as 2 big passing plays for Touchdowns to the Chargers. 22-7 OC led late 2nd qtr. and the Rebels at that point made adjustments and looked to be containing Covington. Dunn's TD pass before halftime to cut it to 22-14 and the Covington rushing TD to start the 3rd qtr. tied things back up at 22. At one point, Covington outscored OC 36-7 for a 43-29 lead in the 4th qtr. Phipps made some great throws for OC in the 2nd half and a few of those passes should've been caught. Tanner Cary had a big night receiving the football and L.D. Fair Carried the team on his back at one point in the 2nd half and played well on special teams(speaking of special teams- Fair had an excellent punt at one point to pin Covington back at the one and also had to make a couple of tackles when he kicked off to stop Covington from even larger gains on kick returns) What gets lost in the overall picture is Covington's Pass rush that created problems for the Rebels late in the contest and very athletic defensive pass coverage vs. a very good Rebel receiving core. In the end it was way too much ground game from Covington and Central's inability to stop the run that led to the Charger victory. Coming into the contest the combined record of Obion Central's previous 7 opponents was 18-33, Covington's previous 7 opponents combined record was 16-34. This was definately by far and away the best opponent the Rebels have played this year and should be a measuring stick on what OC HAS to do if they want to make a deep run in the playoffs. The season is not over- two games remain at Haywood and at home vs. a very good Dyersburg team on a Thursday(Oct.27th). Doesn't get easier for Covington as they travel to Milan next week for a date with the Dawgs- from what I saw Friday night- that should be a good game. tbiggs
Obion vrs Covington! Wow what a game! one of the best games I've seen in years. I will also add that the Obion people were classy as always. I will not get on here and blast your sons on either team because being a Dad of a football player and I actually played the game, I realize how bad these losses hurt. It's pretty obvious on here sometimes who has never crossed a white line on a football field except in a band uniform!I'm a Charger and proud to be but this was a game we'll talkabout for a long time. I didn't see any quit on either team. The RB #21 for Obion was very impressive, where will he be playing on Saturdays? IMO I think Covington was a tad bit more phyiscal on both sides of the ball was the difference. I do think we will see each other again and I can't wait. That's the kind of game that makes Friday night, FRIDAY NIGHT!
redbirdfan
tbiggs I was very impressed with the Covington game plan coming in and you could tell they scouted OCCHS well on both sides of the ball. Multiple backs that can run the ball and hats off to the guys up front who blocked fairly well for them. Perhaps these teams could meet again in the playoffs(which now more than likely will take place at Covington) If that be the case the Rebel defense better come to play because the Charger Wing T offense was very impressive. Should be an excellent matchup with Covington at Milan next week in what will be a battle for the District 13AA regular season championship. tbiggs
I played for the OC team that beat y'all when they were #1 in the state...I always loved playing Covington...The games were never boring...Should be no different tomorrow night in front of what could be one of the largest crowds ever at Rebel Field... Go Rebs! Brother ya'll served up a big ole slice of humble pie, but it did cause a refocus and they went all the way that year and lost in the championship game.
