Henry County vs. Munford

Ray threw the ball much better tonight I thought....we just had some "butter fingers" receivers a few times. Ainley was good with the extra points. Running game solid as usual. Once again, our defense was fierce....the key to our deep run. One poor kid from Munford was carried off by ambulance. They were very careful with him which makes me believe was either a back or neck injury???? Anyone know more about this???

The young man from Munford did suffer an injury which looked pretty severe from the sidelines...however after visiting with those who attended to him....much precaution was taken even though he had complete movement in both the arms and legs. Nonetheless...there was apparently some slight damage to a vertebra found once he arrived at HCMC. Other specialists were notified at another facility and they were preparing him to be moved to that facility for further care. Both the family and Head Coach were optimistic for a full and complete recovery in a few short weeks although as one can imagine the discomfort given the limited mobility during the tests. It was a very physical play with absolutely zero malicious intent...simply put...an unfortunate part of the game we love! I have visited with their Head Coach after the game and will continue to do so throughout the week to stay "up to speed" on his progress! Coach Saunders is as pleasant and humble of a Head Coach as you will see in the profession. I certainly hate that on top of his team's season ending, he has to also deal with one of his players spending the night in a hospital away from home. Great job tonite Cougars and congratulations on a great season!

I will say that the Henry Co. program is a very special one. I am a former player of Melrose 2004-07 and had the chance to play them for three years and I must say they have a good if not great team year in and year out! I will say that they do have the advantage of playing a weaker schedule than the memphis teams usually does. The strength of schedule of a high caliber Memphis team will outweigh Henry Co. schedule anyday so records can be misleading. I do think that Henry CO. is the Boise St of High School football, a very good team but doesnt play a tough enough schedule, but like Boise when they play a great team they find a way to win. Is this team better than the team with Teague and Allen? Dont sleep on the Memphis teams, they wont blow a 20 point lead like we did!

Interesting, East played such a tough schedule and was 7-3, and gave up a loss at home by giving up forty points to a team Henry County had on their weak schedule and was beating 49-0 with 9 minutes to play in the second quarter, and went on to win 63-14. but that was one of those weak opponents LOL I think they beat the second seed in the Memphis quad. I noticed that Dyer county beat a memphis team, and now the quad is down to the one Memphis team in 5a that I think is solid, Ridgeway.

I agree with your post in parts. However, Memphis East only had their best player for one series. Brian Kimbrow is the one of the best if not THE best RB in the state. I think the score may have been a little different with him on the field.

    • I have no clue if Derek tried to talk some since into his dad or not about staying here. All he is going to accomplish is going from the oven to the frying pan. If I were the coach all Ale would freze over before I set back and watched one of my good players leave without a fight.
    • If this is true, South Gibson is taking a big chance. Passing on an experienced coach for a guy who has never coached at the high school level is a high risk move, especially in that district and region.
    • Dorian Eskridge was HVA's best back, 2011
    • Jo Byrns was a very solid team last year. Imo, I thought they presented the biggest challenge for us on our path to winning it all last year. I expect them to be in the conversation and one of the final few teams playing in Murfreesboro
    • I'm not sure you understand anything if you think DB's career and AD's career are comparable.  This is a terrible take.   Not to slight AD, He was a good player and he got better as he matured after high school.   But Desean had over 8,000 yards in HS and was a two-time Mr. Football.
