Top teams next season?

Covington has some seniors graduating, but Johnston White returns at running back. Carlos Williams will have a decision to make for his senior year. Does he drop football to concentrate on baseball and an SEC baseball scholarship, or will he return to the football team? If he plays football, he is a Tennessee Mr. Football candidate the moment he steps on the field. If both of these guys are in the backfield, the sky is the limit.

Regardless of what Carlos decides, I believe that with Marty Wheeler as head coach, you can expect Covington to be a power in 4A for the immediate future.

Sounds like CPA is set to make some noise for awhile there in Nashville. I wish you guys the best of luck with Milan and am hopeful my guys can find a way to get past AE. Would love the opportunity to see a CAK vs CPA state championship game. I believe that would be a barn burner. I follow CPA when I can since I have a very close cousin who's kids attend there and he is crazy about the Lions football team. Our schools seem to meet each other in soccer and other sports so it sounds fitting to me that we continue that in football. Again, congrats so far on a great season and it sounds like you will have many more to come. I enjoy reading your posts. :thumb:

I agree. i would love to see a CPA/CAK game. It's amazing we have never played, but to be honest, the playoff seeding system does not reward scheduling games with good teams. We already (like you) have a tough district. Playing Maplewood, PC, EL, and Lipscomb makes going 5-5 hard enough. I think the matchup will have to come in the championship.

What are the odds you guys will get bumped up to 4A next classification?

My son has applied for a teaching job at Christian schools in TN. , including CAK. Wouldn't that be something if he ended up there?

Enjoy your posts as well.

The Lipscomb Mustangs should return to form, and be much stronger next year. This past year was the first losing season for the Mustangs since 1987 and the first year to not make the playoffs since 1992. The JV team this year won all of their games but one and should have won that game. (This game was against Father Ryan and was played without the normal starting JV QB and RB.) Also, in addition to a strong sophomore class, this years freshman class is strong and won most of their games as well.

I don't know about East Lit., Whites Creek and Stratford, but with strong Maplewood, Pearl-Cohn, CPA and Lipscomb teams, the Class AA District 10 should be very strong and competitive.

I asked coach about that a few weeks back and he said he didn't think that would happen because the school is pretty much at capacity right now. So until we add more classroom space I don't think we will be taking more students. But of course you never know.

With CPA's new high school building, could they get bumped up to 4A if their enrollment increases? I know that they were at the bottom of the 3A classification when they initially got bumped with 1.8 multiplier. Wonder what the cut off is?

CPA has only a few seniors this year. Same for Cheatham County.

Cheatham County will be a "factor" in 3A next year. 2012 has been a season that Cubs fans have looked forward to since these guys were freshmen (see 2009) getting pounded on a weekly basis.

They lose 3 players from this year's team. 2 of those players were significant contributors (Jaconto Espinosa started at cornerback and placekicker & Grady Chipman started at middle linebacker and saw some action at running back/tight end). The other senior was Tyler Willoughby who saw some time in the offensive line rotation.

What do the Cubs return?

All 11 starters on offense and 9 of 11 starters on defense. The offense rushed for 3,190 yards (290.0 yards per game) in 11 games and averaged 29.5 points per game. The defense forced 22 turnovers and gave up less than 20 points per game.

After watching the TSSAA State Playoffs unfold these past few weeks I'd say that RIGHT NOW the Cubs are a Top 10-15 caliber football team and with everyone coming back they should be a preseason Top 10 team next fall.

The week zero contest that features Fairview at Cheatham County should be a battle of Top 10 teams.

The latest TSSAA number I've seen for CAK was 430, so at 1.8 a 774 enrollment would have placed them in 4A playoffs if the new cycle began this year.

    • And can you tell me who those two quarterbacks were, and every kid that was put into college from Bearden is a Bearden kid? It’s kind of why they graduated from Bearden.   and I would definitely not consider ETSU “waste”…
    • Most of this is complete gibberish. But the one part I could decipher is putting kids in college. This coaching staff hasn’t put a single Bearden kid in college. They completed wasted one of the best WRs in East TN and have ruined two talented QBs. All because they’re in over their heads.
    • Well, I’d hope the new coaching staff thinks they are all that because they can always walk around the school, anytime they want, thinking that, especially for what they’ve done for the student athletes and the players, putting more kids in college in his first season than the old coaching staff did in numerous years combined, but we will just sweep over that because I know you don’t like facts. But trust me, nobody wanted Mr. Big britches, made the star player switch to quarterback, which is ultimately the reason he ended up transferring to play the position. He loved, but unfortunately, had to be at another school because Mr. Big Britches doesn’t like when a teenager knows more than him, but can’t expect much coming from a guy who used all class throwing pencils up into the ceiling and making fun of football kids who were failing class right to their face, and in front of numerous students, even projecting on the board most of the time.
    • After that first paragraph, I can see why you’re a TA and not a teacher. Have you made the move from South Knoxville to Bearden yet?    Maybe he left because he is an actual teacher and coach, and didn’t want to be associated with a group of foul mouthed middle school coaches who like to pretend they’re big time.
    • Yeah and the coach is gone. Whole bizarre situation here. We played them a couple of times at MTSU last few years. She was a player for sure.
