Big match coming up tonight at CBHS as #31 ranked in the nation (via Intermat - http://www.intermatwrestle.com/rankings/high_school/Team) CBHS takes on currently undefeated St. Benedict.

Can CBHS give St. Benedict their first loss or will SBA be able to pull the upset and keep the streak alive? This match should determine the Region champ for the season.

The match will feature 5 weights where wrestlers ranked in DII go head-to-head and should have a total of 19 wrestlers ranked in the top 6 of DII.

It is also Senior night at CBHS where the team will honor their outgoing seniors that should include current starters: Brandon Oliver, Matt Johnson, Michael Isom, and Sam Thomas.

A weight-by-weight breakdown is included below. Please note that all records are taken from the NWCA website and all line-ups are subject to change.

106 – The state’s top ranked 106 wrestler, freshman Elijah Oliver, will take the mat for CBHS and should face SBA sophomore Kirt Jenkins brings a 25-9 record into the dual meet. Oliver is currently 33-2 on the season with both losses coming to opponents in MO.

113 – John David Santi of CBHS comes into the match looking to rebound after dropping a 1 point decision to DII’s top ranked Alex Elsea of McCallie. He will toe the line against St. Benedict freshman Ronson Marsh who is 24-14 on the season. Santi is 25-12 in his junior season.

120 – This weight brings us the first match-up between ranked wrestlers as we will see 2nd ranked Brandon Oliver take the mat on his senior night against 4th ranked Kyle Jennings. Jennings has compiled a 25-9 record in his junior season while Oliver is 12-6 in his senior campaign (Oliver has split time with Junior Nick Gray this season).

126 – In another match-up of ranked wrestlers, CBHS brings sophomore state champion Tate Robinson, 2nd ranked wrestler in the state, to the mat to face off against SBA junior Robert Mosier. Mosier currently holds the 5th place ranking in DII partially because of his 22-13 record that has him undefeated against DII opponents. Robinson is 28-2 on the season.

132 – Three-time state medalist Matt Johnson should step on the mat for CBHS as a cap to his senior night. Johnson, the state’s 3rd ranked wrestler, should see another junior from SBA in Andrew Herrman. Herrman is 23-11 on the season while Johnson is 24-8.

138 – In what would appear to be the night’s most even match, based on the rankings, CBHS junior Luke Parish will face SBA senior Mikey Bascom. The state’s 3rd and 4th ranked wrestlers will be looking for their first state medals this year and should settle the answer of who holds supremacy in Memphis DII this evening. Bascom sports a 28-2 record against Parish’s 20-12 mark on the season.

145 – This weight features defending state champion and top-ranked Kaleb Baker for CBHS facing Andrew Nevle from SBA. Nevle is 25-8 on the year while Baker is currently 33-2.

152 – This weight brings our next match-up of state ranked wrestlers as #4 Brandon Hataway of CBHS will take on #6 Ben Kurtz of SBA. These wrestlers have faced each other before and are familiar with each other so this should provide an interesting match-up. Kurtz brings the stronger record into the match at 29-4 on the season while Hataway has put together a 25-13 mark. Interestingly enough, until a recent slip at the Father Ryan tournament it was Kurtz who held the higher state ranking… can he climb back over Hataway tonight?

160 – CBHS should send their third senior to the mat in the form of 2nd ranked Michael Isom. St. Benedict has used several representatives at this weight but has most recently seen Tim Maginn manning the spot after spending much of the year at 170. Isom has fought his way to stay just above .500 on the year with the challenging schedule CBHS wrestles as he currently sits at 18-15 after losing in the finals of the G.P. West Invitational. Maginn is 20-11 on the season with the majority of those matches coming at 170.

170 – Third-ranked, returning state medalist Barrett Walthall will look to rebound after falling in the finals of the G.P. West Invitational this past weekend against John Wallis of SBA. Walthall is 27-10 coming in against Wallis record of 24-5.

182 – Junior Corbin McOlgan will represent CBHS against SBA senior Cody Clark at 182. McOlgan is a returning state medalist (4th at 215 last season) and ranked 3rd in DII. McOlgan is 23-11 on the season while Clark is 16-14.

195 – SBA finds the first match where the rankings sit in their favor as 2nd ranked Jeff Lamer, a bronze medalist at state last season as a junior, should wrestle his last dual meet against CBHS. Lamer will put his season’s 35-1 mark (lone loss to #1 ranked Fisher of Father Ryan) on the line against 4th ranked sophomore Jeremy Brandon who has compiled an 8-9 record while splitting time in the CBHS varsity line-up.

Unless SBA bumps their upper-weight line-up, which they have done several times this season, the match will end at 195 as SBA has not has a wrestler at 220 or 285 this season and CBHS would receive forfeits.
