this is going to be one of the strongest districts in the midstate. Hume-Fogg has one of the top pgs in the state with Brandon Harriford. lipscomb always is the team to beat in this district every year. they always do well. portland has two very good players in senior john ferguson and junior corey brewer. sringfield is hard to predict. very athletic but very inconsistent. mlk is young but has potential to get better throughout the season. greenbrier lost their 2 best players from year and i dont know who they have now. east lit and macon co. lost their best players from last year also so they will need new guys to step up for their teams. it will probably come down to hume fogg, lipscomb, and portland just like it did last year. all three teams have a good shot at winning this district.

Jayman... this summer at Hendersonville camp Hume-Fogg beat Macon County by 30 something points without Brandon Harriford. Tell the truth. Hume-Fogg is a force to reckon with. Be honest about it.

Everyone should not forget about Springfield so early. They have one of the quickest teams around with talent to match. Last year they were a young team which lead to a lot of inconsistency. With everyone focused on Lipscomb, Portland, and Hume-Fogg, they could surprise them all. I wouldn't be shocked at all if they wound up district champs when all was said and done.

What you have said is defiinitly true about the quickness and athletic ability. But who in the distict doesnt think that every year about Springfield. They have to win some big games more than once a year for people to even give them consideration. Springfield always has athletes but getting them to play together seems to be the problem. They are a scary team because you dont know which one will show up.

I have said, time and time again, that Springfield is the most athletic team in this district. They are capable of beating any team in this district on any given night.....as long as they learn to play as a team. They return all 5 starters from last years team and have a strong bench. They also have a very talented Freshman ( Kevin Woodson) which I'm sure you will see playing some varsity.

This district should be more competitive from top to bottom than last year. There is a wealth of young talent coming up on several teams. It should be exciting, not only this year, but in the next 2 or 3 as well.

Good luck to all the teams in 8-AA.

Don't be suprised if both, Greenbrier and Macon County make some noise. Macon is always tough at home and they have some good shooters. Greenbrier will be young, mostly Sophomores, but a very talented class. Last year their Freshman team went 14-4, winning their games by a margin of 24 points per game, and winning the championship of the Portland tournament.

Greenbrier also has a good Freshman class this year. They have two 6'4" kids and a good point guard. They went undefeated at the Gallatin camp this summer. You may even see some Freshman playing on Greenbrier's varsity.

The disrict should be more competitive this year.....than last. I wouldn't count any team out.

Now that the season is closing in, does anybody have any pre-season picks for how this district may shake out. Mine would be:

1. Portland - Brewer and Furguson will be too much to handle.

2. Lipscomb - Always tough.

3. Hume-Fogg - Harriford and company will have a tough time repeating, but should be in the thick of things at the end.

4. Springfield - Athletic and quick, but in need of leadership.

5. MLK - Young bunch this year, but very talented. Shelton will have them tough by tourny time but will come up short in the season.

6. Macon Co. - Tough at home, but must overcome too many good teams this year.

7. East Lit. - Plenty of athletes, nut cannot play together. Need to learn about "team" sport.

8. Greenbriar - Much like MLK, young but not quite as talented. Next year they will move up.
