They had good teams in those years. I also remember talent "just showing up" from other places that helped quite a bit.

You couldn't be farther from the truth Indian. The players on those teams played at the Soddy Daisy Kids Club and at MIddle Valley youth leagues. I have noticed over the years that you seem to spout off about some things which you don't know anything about. I would love to hear who you think "just showed up" because that is not true

I say it HAS to be coaching. Soddy has too many kids to not have talent.....they are always one of the most, if not the most, populated schools in Hamilton. It's more about coaching kids right and inspiring them to do more than walk the hallways.....inspire em to get on the field. I knew plenty who were great at basketball of football but never cared to play for the school. The right coach can fix that.

Tom Weathers was awfully torn up over it, back during that time frame. Did he not know what he was talking about?

You must be refering to 6 kids that transfered to Soddy from Red Bank when Price got the head coaching job. Those were the only kids that just "SHOWED UP" that I know of but those 6 did start on the first playoff team in Soddy school history so I am sure Weathers was upset but he still beat Soddy that year. When you get a good coach people just "SHOW UP" to play for your school. Look at Signal Mtn. and also East Hamilton they have tons of kids that just "SHOWED UP" but that is how it is and will always be.

I do not know who Indian is talking about either, but chances are those kids were probably zoned Soddy-Daisy to begin with and had "just showed up" at Red Bank because they had a better program.

And it is a shame what is about to happen with that 8th grade class from Loftis this year, that is unless a coaching change is made soon.

What is happening with the Loftis 8th grade class is not all that is a shame. Kids are not going to play next year that should be playing because there is not going to be a change. But football is not the only sport at Soddy Daisy suffering all sports at the school are headed in the wrong direction. With the exception of wrestling all sports will be worse this year than last and wrestling will start downhill after this year. The fact is Soddy Daisy administration pays little attention to athletics and it is starting to show. You lost 2 legendary coaches this past year (Henry and Kirk) and replaced them with unproven guys that have 0 head coaching experience (Higgins and Skiles) so why would they replace the football coach with a proven guy. Soddy fans if you are looking for the future to be bright the next few years are going to be very disappointing to you. If I had a son or daughter in Middle school that played sports I would be sending them somewhere else if I could.

    • I remember very well watching things change in the late 80's and yes it's all schools. Most people that are in charge today have any idea because they were raised and taught under this social experiment so they don't have a clue. Anyone that does see the truth for what it is usually try and hide it by blending in so that the School Gestapo doesn't round them up and take them to the Fuhrer ( kindly putting it ). Yes it is all schools not just Maryville. This train ride is not headed in a good direction and if the public had seen a movie of what's happening now back in 1980 everyone would have been headed home afterwards to change underware.
    • Hoping to make the playoffs.
    • You are so correct!  It’s really 99.9% of academia want to change to way that education is not only taught but the way it is viewed.  The pendulum has definitely swung as far to the left as possible and eventually will swing to the right much too far.  I have always  said that politics and one’s personal religious views need to stay out of education,  but for the last 40 years education has been running full throttle to what we have today.  If the social experiment that we are currently experiencing continues it is only a matter of time before the public school system in the USA completely collapses and all kids attend private schools or even worse don’t go to school.
    • He was a bruise but Aaron Dykes is HVA’s best RB ever.
    • I am talking about what they both did for their team. They both carried their team for four years while they were both there. I wasn’t really comparing them that would be unfair. Bishop is on a level of his own.
