Tri-County Seven- Week #8

Remarkably, we have no changes in the rankings for the second straight week. I believe Cloudland is about ready to begin a move up, but not quite yet. Elizabethton's depth will be tested to hold off Hampton and Unicoi County. The next few weeks will be fun!

1. Elizabethton- (AA) (14-3)- Beat Happy Valley by nine on the road after losing senior point guard Morgan DePew (Tusculum signee) to an apparent knee injury. Reazyn DeMoss stepped up with DePew out. Starting guard Lauren McCurry is still in a walking boot with a stress fracture and super-sub Caley Hodge is still in a cast with a broken tibia. Most teams would collapse losing three of their top six players, but I am betting the Lady Cyclones will not. They have depth. Three freshman were on the floor at crucial times in the Happy Valley game. I hope the injured players make quick returns. In the meantime, Bradley, the Marosite twins, Isaacs, and possibly Melinda Perry will get more playing time.

2. Hampton- (A) (16-4)- Had a nice week beating Johnson County and picked up a huge comeback win at North Greene. I am sure Coach Tolley could do without having to make double digit comebacks, but the Lady Dogs have firepower. Cloudland visits Friday for a huge game. I will take Hampton at home by 5.

3. Unicoi County- (AA) (10-7)- I do not think the Lady Devils played last week. They are at Johnson County Tuesday and at East Friday. They cannot afford to let up if they want a shot to tie Elizabethton for the District title.

4. Happy Valley- (AA) (8-8)- Played pretty well in home loss to Elizabethton Friday. Perry and Blankenship are a very good pair of guards. They need more development out of the supporting cast to be able to beat Elizabethton and Unicoi County. At U-H Monday and host East Tuesday in an important conference game.

5. Cloudland- (A) (8-9)- Beat U-H and Unaka soundly last week. This team is coming together. They are at Johnson County Monday, visit Hampton Friday, and head to Cherokee Saturday. A win over Hampton would really shake things up.

6. Unaka- (A) (9-9)- Missed injured point guard Alicia Colbaugh in loss to Cloudland. Transfer guard Autumn Bradshaw now playing well for Daniel Boone. Should beat Tri-Cities Christian Monday, but will need Colbaugh back when they travel to North Greene Friday.

7. Johnson County- (AA) (3-13)- Played pretty well in a loss to Hampton and lost a heartbreaker to East by 2. Wins are still hard to come by and it is a tough upcoming week for the Lady Horns. Cloudland will be in Mountain City on Monday, Unicoi County visits Tuesday, and Elizabethton heads up the mountain on Friday.

Think you've got the rankings spot on coach. Like you said it is going to be very interesting and entertaining in the upcoming weeks. I still think Johnson Co is going to pull an upset before all is said and done. They continue to play people close and one of these games will break through, whether its against Elizabethton, Unicoi Co, Unaka, Happy Valley or Cloudland is yet to be seen. They've already played Hampton twice. Elizabethton still has to go to Unicoi and Sullivan East, as well as Johnson Co and Hampton. Unaka will play North Greene with NG having all of its players, unlike the first time they played. Cloudland at Hampton will tell us quite a bit this coming Friday. As the weather gets colder the action starts to heat up.

Rankings again look good for now. Anyone know when McCurry from Elizabethton might be back? Losing Depew is a big blow. She is a talented player.

She won't be from what I've heard out of Elizabethton. She has turned in her uniform and quit as of this morning. Could be a rumor we'll see Friday i guess.. Edited by bballfan05

    • I remember very well watching things change in the late 80's and yes it's all schools. Most people that are in charge today have any idea because they were raised and taught under this social experiment so they don't have a clue. Anyone that does see the truth for what it is usually try and hide it by blending in so that the School Gestapo doesn't round them up and take them to the Fuhrer ( kindly putting it ). Yes it is all schools not just Maryville. This train ride is not headed in a good direction and if the public had seen a movie of what's happening now back in 1980 everyone would have been headed home afterwards to change underware.
    • Hoping to make the playoffs.
    • You are so correct!  It’s really 99.9% of academia want to change to way that education is not only taught but the way it is viewed.  The pendulum has definitely swung as far to the left as possible and eventually will swing to the right much too far.  I have always  said that politics and one’s personal religious views need to stay out of education,  but for the last 40 years education has been running full throttle to what we have today.  If the social experiment that we are currently experiencing continues it is only a matter of time before the public school system in the USA completely collapses and all kids attend private schools or even worse don’t go to school.
    • He was a bruise but Aaron Dykes is HVA’s best RB ever.
    • I am talking about what they both did for their team. They both carried their team for four years while they were both there. I wasn’t really comparing them that would be unfair. Bishop is on a level of his own.
