That was not a big surprise, I thought the 1 vs 4 would be a toss up and the others would have a long night. At least 3 of the 4, I'm not sure about Notre Dame, will have most of their players back next year, also the two that didn't make it to the region, so maybe there will be a chance for at least 1 win next year by somebody.

I don't see it happening next year. The top teams will be just as good and Smith Co. and Central Magnet will be much improved. Even DeKalb has a few freshman that have been getting alot of playing time this year. They took out Notre Dame in the regular season just as bad as they were taken out in region and DC was 1-11 in our district. Also, Macon comes to 8AA next year which just makes it better.

Upperman over Magnet was an upset in my opinion. Definitely looked like Magnet was playing very well. Upperman just had a good game and now that they are in region anything is possible.

As for the boys of Bledsoe if they do get to the second game I don't think they will get further. Doesn't matter how much better they've gotten they have terrible match up problems with DC. Do I believe they are better this year? Yes. Do I believe they are 43 points better? No.

It's not like it's always been a sweep, Grundy won two last year, Sequatchie could have won at least one a few years ago when they played Upperman twice in sectionals. The region had McMinn Central, Polk, etc, then.

You have to go back almost 10 years before 8-AA has lost more than 1 game in the 1st round of Region play (quarter-finals). In the 4 years 8-AA has matched up with 7-AA it's not been close. 8-AA 1st round record is 14-2 with complete sweeps in 2010 and 2013 (this year). I wouldn't expect it to change much with LA, Cannon Co., Central Magnet and Smith Co. returning alot of great players. Throw in Macon Co., Upperman, DeKalb Co. and York and I'd say the chance is almost ZERO that 7-AA will win a game even next year. I guess 7-AA can cling to the hope that maybe their #1 could squeak one out against 8-AA #4 next year but look who that #4 seed might be next year!!

    • No reasonable lawyer would take up this case. I am not a lawyer, but I know school law in and out.  Similar situations just like this play out thousands of times each year across the country, even at the college level (i.e. Ole Miss)  The Plaintiff's never win...ever.  If I am wrong, please provide a legal precedent for me. I will be waiting.  https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/39431892/judge-drops-ole-miss-player-lawsuit-lane-kiffin
    • Yes Justin Cruse was named head coach
    • It used to be, I think it still is, a change of 20% +/- gives reason to reclassify. Schools can choose to play up classifications but not down. Here is the mid cycle reclassification info on TSSAA.org When Memphis East changed from a regular public school to an "all-optional" school in 2017 the would've dropped to A but chose to stay in AAA in basketball (baseball, and softball) Penny was still coaching there and with the players they had they would've beaten A teams by 40 and slept walked to the championship. Other Memphis schools stayed in their classifications (mostly in basketball) until the next reclassification cycle. Of course this is the same time that a 4th class was added basketball.
