Finley Resigns as Cheatham Football Coach

Recommended Posts

I keep thinking one day districts are going to have to realize how important a positive athletic program is to a school but then I see who gets moved in to powers of position and realize that may be a pipe dream. Unfortunately it seems to be a trend that athletics keep getting tossed to the side.

Is the OC at CC interested in the HC job or is he going with Finley?

Gerry Bertier told us in his last post I believe. It's a shame for the kids that such a great year ends this way (both sports) but these men have to do what's right in the end for themselves and their families.

I would not have ever guessed in a million years that a school system or administration would ever be as bad as what we have here in Clarksville/Montgomery County, but it appears Cheatham has trumped us.

The county is a joke. Its not ran in regards to concern for kids, but at a power play in the Central office/board level. My best guess would be in the next 12 months you will see charges brought against several in and associated with 102 Elizabeth Street.

Every single time I think Cheatham County Schools cant get worse, I am incorrect.

Ashamed too, once was on the right track and people cared. Now, most of them are retired, fired, or resigned to go elsewhere..............more to follow.

Cheatham County has turned into the cesspool of wretched refuse for teachers and coaches.

They either get first year people with no experience, or washed up ex state employees trying to finish out their retirement years.

The kids suffer. Most of the folks there dont know much better. Too many followers, not enough rebels. Finley has done a good job, as did the basketball coach and many, many, other at Cheatham County HS, Sycamore, and Harpeth. Yet, when the opportunity arrises, they bail.

Not a dig on Stewart County, but when you lose coaches to Stewart County......lol.....man, you aint doing something right!

County problem...been going on for years

Right. Long time county wide problem.

howdoitknow is right. A young assistant looking to make a name will apply. He'll get the job. If he's successful, he'll move on to greener pastures after a few years. I don't know where Coach Finley is from, but I'd consider Stewart County at most a lateral move. That suggests there are issues in the front office there at CCCHS. Been there and done that!

Cheatham County needs some real leadership in many areas. I thought Webb did a good job of at least acknowledging that there were athletic facilities in the county that required annual maintenance. Before that, booster clubs were finishing the gym floors, seeding the turf and replacing light bulbs and buying paint to maintain Cheatham County facilities. Parents are on notes for new buildings. It is a crying shame that a public school system can't keep their own grounds maintained and when something new is built, it will be the bare bones minimum off the rack school design that some architectural firm has had built a dozen times. Cheatham Central and Harpeth Middle's gyms were at the point of condemnation before the bleachers were upgraded. There's no air conditioning in the gyms. Most of the lighting for baseball and football are substandard. And no wonder. Harpeth alone has had 4 principals in the last 4 years and 3 directors of schools. The turnover is similar at every school in the system. I really don't know who in their right mind would apply for a job in this county. I really don't.

    • And can you tell me who those two quarterbacks were, and every kid that was put into college from Bearden is a Bearden kid? It’s kind of why they graduated from Bearden.   and I would definitely not consider ETSU “waste”…
    • Most of this is complete gibberish. But the one part I could decipher is putting kids in college. This coaching staff hasn’t put a single Bearden kid in college. They completed wasted one of the best WRs in East TN and have ruined two talented QBs. All because they’re in over their heads.
    • Well, I’d hope the new coaching staff thinks they are all that because they can always walk around the school, anytime they want, thinking that, especially for what they’ve done for the student athletes and the players, putting more kids in college in his first season than the old coaching staff did in numerous years combined, but we will just sweep over that because I know you don’t like facts. But trust me, nobody wanted Mr. Big britches, made the star player switch to quarterback, which is ultimately the reason he ended up transferring to play the position. He loved, but unfortunately, had to be at another school because Mr. Big Britches doesn’t like when a teenager knows more than him, but can’t expect much coming from a guy who used all class throwing pencils up into the ceiling and making fun of football kids who were failing class right to their face, and in front of numerous students, even projecting on the board most of the time.
    • After that first paragraph, I can see why you’re a TA and not a teacher. Have you made the move from South Knoxville to Bearden yet?    Maybe he left because he is an actual teacher and coach, and didn’t want to be associated with a group of foul mouthed middle school coaches who like to pretend they’re big time.
    • Yeah and the coach is gone. Whole bizarre situation here. We played them a couple of times at MTSU last few years. She was a player for sure.
