Milan's boys basketball coach Todd Sheppard was relieved of his coaching duties last week...He had the impossible job of coaching basketball in a football town...bad move by Milan administration IMO...Coach Sheppard is a class act and ran a class program...he had some success with the program but not many wins in the last few years...what sussessful coach can they get that's going to even think about taking that job...what's next....firing football coach Morris because he's lost 4 state champ games in a row??...Milan needs to start thinking about firing the principal, the sup and the school board

He is a class act. Did an excellent job with limited talent. Had the privilege of coaching against him for several years. His teams always played hard and executed very well. His successor isfilling huge shoes and will be hard pressed to improve on what Todd accomplished. Poor decision by Milan admin.

I agree with you...Coach Shep said in the paper that if he stays at Milan to teach and coach volleyball, he'll have to get a part time job to make up for losing his bkb coaching supplement...he's got 2 kids at Union Univ.....which is not cheap ( they've still got a whole lot of my money from the 80's)...they're on athletic schlorships but I'm sure they're not full rides....good luck Milan in finding a coach with as much class and character as Coach Sheppard Edited by cofo

A former graduate at Union University, State Championship Coach, and great basketball IQ? Am I on the right track here guys. That is the person I am hearing. If so, he will do a great job!

that's the word on the street I'm hearing too....I talked to someone who currently works closely with this mystery coach in his current job and they said the coach and Milan HAVE talked but that's about all they knew Edited by cofo

    • Tough situation.  Not sure the ROI is there right now.   Might be better options that are cheaper.
    • Yeah summer ball is really fun, but a lot of coaches are trying to play several kids to get much needed reps that they are not accustomed to. I would imagine Gibson County will have lots of players playing to get much needed reps. Want to win games but got to get experience as well and the rotation will be much deeper. I will be at MTSU, UTM Bethel and others. MTSU is the one I really look forward to.
    • So who are the new additions to the staff? Serious answers only please.
    • Its always interested to see the state teams the following summer after losing or not losing seniors and getting freshman and transfers. It's almost time.
    • Maryville has Alcoa on the schedule at the right time of the season which helped last year instead of at the first of the year not knowing much. West will be hard pressed to repeat this year but next will be a different story.
