VolunteerGeneral
The Jackson Sun had an article today regarding Collinwood`s submitted item to the regional meetings of the TSSAA`s agenda. Hmmmmm... guess we all know what this request was. Anyway here is a link to their story including several qoutes from both private and public schools opinions on the idea. VG(who figured someone might be interested in reading this) oops...left off the link (brain fart) http://miva.jacksonsun.com/miva/cgi-bin/mi...200210304308851 [Edited by VolunteerGeneral on 10-30-02 8:16P]
BDURHAM
VolGen: Thanks for the link. A reporter would get different responses in Middle Tennessee, where the coaches have certainly thought about the issue.
ghost
The petition needs to be supported by all public schools not just the 1 and 2A schools, because if there is no support for this petition then the next petition will be to bring all of the private schools back. 3A, 4A, and 5A got rid of the privete schools so they will no longer worry about it. We need everyone's support for this petition or it will soon be everyone's problem again not just 1A and 2A.
OnlineLC
I don't know what good a petition to get all the Private Schools back would do in the event of failure (or lack of interest) in the 1A, 2A petition. Status Quo is always easier to keep so the easiest route would be to ignore both petitions. From the TSSAA point of view they have the wealthy privates happy and the 3A,4A and 5A schools happy. I seriously doubt that the 2A and 1A rurals have enough clout with the TSSAA to change much.
BDURHAM
OnLine: Coaches have long memories. Who started the movement to drive the privates out first? I think you will find overwhelming support from the larger school administrators and coaches. Many large school coaches think they are presently losing players to the privates, and they don't want to play what many observers consider to be "all-star" teams from a city. JaxMan
Kids will still go to privates to play regardless of what division they are in. Losing kids is not something TSSAA can legislate.
