You need to quite buying into the scores and b.s. from people that weren't there. Which blowouts this year? Bell Co.? Hixon? Polk Co.? Marion Co.? The problem with blowouts is that sometimes they aren't blowouts until they are and up until that point, they could be a game. The Boyd Buch game this year is a good example. We are up 21 - 0 with a couple to go in the first half and we lay and egg on the 11 yard line that sets them up with a goal line opportunity and they cut it to 21 - 6 at the half. They received the opening kick and drove down the field and scored cutting it 21 - 13 early in the third. Sure, SP ended up winning 49 - 19 but it was a ball game through the 4th. In the playoffs, SP played a backup backfield in the 1st Qtr against Fayetteville.

As far as Whitwell and LV goes, the younger kids did play, but what real experience did they get?

I believe in blending in players. Nothing wholesale or stupid. Now if you don't agree with me that's fine. There is a way to do this. Not here to debate with anyone. Coach Baxter really made this point during his last run in 2007. Go pirates 2014 ! Think this young group will be a bit surprising to some.

I agree and they do that.  However, you specifically mentioned blow out games.  There were really only 2 games that we figured would be blowouts, Whitwell, and L.V.

You are right. I made another post about this statement later on. 2014 will be full of young, unproven kids. Hopefully many of them will realize its their time to step up and will represent the P.[/quote

In the words of Dave Baxter ." If you don't play your future in blowout games, the future will come back to haunt you" ! Closed quote

You are correct, Coach Dave use to say those words often. Luckily for SP they had a couple of games like that in 2013 where young guys received some game time. Sale Creek, Sequatchie Co, Whitwell, Lookout Valley and Fayetteville the younger kids got some time. Am I missing any games this year? Those are the only five blowouts I can think of in 2013.

Boss, Coach Dave was a good one. You're right about the young guys. They have some talent, but need more game time to get some seasoning.

Jo Byrns is a top 10 team next year. They have to find a RB but pretty dang solid in a lot of other positions. We should give NCS a run for their money next year.

I agree Moto....honestly, I think that 1A will be stronger across the board and teams will have a harder run at it this coming year. Although, it will UC's to lose...IMO.

I don't want the coalfield faithful to jump me when I ask this, but why would coalfield be considered top 10? Did y'all lose many players or returning most of them?

Hey Moto, I'm not asking you to name names, but do you have someone ready to step into the QB position?  We are facing the same situation.  Our QB was a senior and we now pass that spot onto a guy that will be a junior next year.  I think he's ready to do it, but of course we won't know until next year.

I'll tell you team out west that will surprise people next year. Lake Co return 16 starters from a team that went 5-6 and played Humboldt real well both times last year. LC had a coaching change last year and had to replace 16 starters. LC played well down the stretch and improved as the year went on. Must play better on defense. Not saying state title good but very well could be top 10 good.

Yes, if it's who I think it'll be we will have a junior back there next year. He started as a freshman at QB In Illinois. He's supposed to go to the manning passing academy and some other camps so we shall see. He's got a stronger arm than Kevin Adkins.
