I wont argue that VB will beat either one of them for fact cause they may not but the game will come down to the final 2 min. bet on that. VB lost @ Jackson COUNTY by only 7 then LOST again to JC @VAN buren by only 5. So it would be a big mistake for JC to think they are gonna go to a packed house @ VAN Buren and beat them by more then they did the two previous times in a regular season game. (plus Hate that this is how it is but we all know if they get a bunch of scared refs. the refs are going to make all the 50\50 calls in the home teams favor which is always a gigantic edge. Always happens am I lieing???) Bottom line Van Buren has a player which is capible of single handley beating any team by herself. If you havent seen her play you need too def check her out. No worries she has 2 more years. Im sure she will prolly play for Clarkrange or JC next year. lol jp kinda. ANYWAYS She can shut down the other teams best PG on the court or she can shut down the Center. She can post up on a center and get and ones all night or step 6 ft behind the three and drain 4 three's in a row. She can not be pressed. She is the best player Ive seen in 3a in a decade. Anyways JC and Clark have great players also dont get me wrong but they always have great players and teams. Im just making sure you understand how good this gal is from VB. Your just not used to 3a team having such a dominate player. This girl would start for any team in the state. THIS is the same girl who three years ago moved up to high school as an 8th grader for the Dist/Region and took @ the Time the worst team in the Region to a district Championship and to a region Championship which without her would have been put first rd. GONNA BE A GREAT SUBSTATE

After all that I just went on about. Let me announce that I am a Whitwell fan so Im def going for Silverdale to upset VAN BUren tonight hahaha. lol OH and look at CSAS WHITWELL AND VB sch. they have all played 9 or more different teams with winning Records while Siverdale played only 2 teams with winning records and one of those teams was CSAS which took 2 of 3. I may be wrong but I dont believe SIlverdale has played team like VB all season.

If I was the coach of VB I asolutely would not let Coe beat me just the same for Jackson county I wouldnt let Bouldin beat me. I believe if they play it will be a great game both have been so far. Dont let the loss by 5 fool you VB had every chance in the world to win that game at home. And that was with Bouldin having a bad second half. If they play it will be a good one

The layup was completely uncontested and was much higher percentage than 2 foul shots. The coach drew a perfect play, the van buren girls were out of position, and the CSAS girls executed perfectly right up until the the girl missed the layup. She makes it and CSAS probably goes on to win. Just the way things go some times.

I agree that the coaches play was a great play, Van Buren was out of position, and that that the layup should have been made. My point was with a bobbled catch, and an off balanced attempted and CSAS already in the bonus pulling out may have been better. Van Buren would have been forced to foul. The one and one would have been touchy but CSAS had a foul to give so even if neither shot was made time was still in their favor. The missed layup led to CSAS being out of control and a dagger being made on the other end. I also agree that that's just the way things go sometimes. There's still ball to be played tonight but I believe that if either team makes it through tonight they both have the ability to play competively with anyone in the state.

Lakelyn is a very good HS player.  Best in 3A, but you are getting a bit carried away.  She WOULD NOT START on any HS team in the state.  You obviously have not seen all of the teams.  Don't get me wrong I would draft her on my team any day, but her athletic talent is not up to that of the top players in the state.  Basketball wise she is as smart as they come, but just not the genes to be a DIV 1 player.  5'7'' with limited speed is at best a D2 player.

As far as Silverdale, you better check your facts.  They won all AA games they played, CCS twice, Polk Co, and Signal Mtn.  Signal and CCS won 18+ games and advanced to Regional play.  Hard to have a good strength of schedule when your District is weak - Copper Basin, Grace & Boyd.

CSAS has been playing much better of late, and easily should have beat VB last game.  Player should not have even attempted layup, but ran the clock out and forced fouls.  VB only had 3 team fouls at the time and 30 seconds on the clock.  Coaching mistake caused that loss more than player.

But lets see how the games go tonight, and someone will be right, and someone will be wrong.  I am calling for SBA win 52-46 over VB, and Whitwell 44-42 over CSAS, and then SBA will beat Whitwell by 10 in the Region Finals.

Not a D1 player? I'm going to have to strongly disagree with you on that one. She's only a sophomore and has already scored more than Coe did at this point in her career. I'm not saying she will be better than Coe but I think she could absolutely play at a UTC or TTU. With two more years to develop who knows how good she will be come this time her senior year.

    • I've always been a football fan first and then if you have a band that's awesome. No question that DB has one of the best bands in the country and the whole region should attend at least one DB game just to see their band. I don't know if Nick Saban could come to Kingsport and build a football program that could match the Dobyns Bennett band's success. That said,as mentioned before, a couple of things would have to change in order for the Tribe to just win a state championship on the field.Besides a program that starts from the peewee teams and goes all the way to J Fred with all coaches and weight training { in time }on the same page. Sometimes it also takes a little luck like the 1998 Vols .There are a lot of great athletes at a lot of big schools around the state and just because you want something doesn't mean your going to build a program like Alcoa has. Yes,start at the bottom and have guys that are quality coaches teaching at every level is 100% the first step. Parents can make it a lot easier by getting their young athletes into an early start with conditioning and weights as well when they are old enough to lift.If your son is a man in the weight room before he gets to DB , then it won't take a "Dobbs" coach to make him competitive against other schools athletes when it comes to strength.

    • A complete cultural change happened at Greeneville and the administration and community opened up their checkbooks.  What a lot of people don't know is Ballard was Zeller's OC for many years and stopped coaching for two years because Zeller and Ballard didn't see eye to eye on some things.  Zeller lead Greeneville to it's first ever Semi Final appearance in 2000 and lost 28-12 at Maryville and had them in the Quarter Finals in 2002 and 2003.  Z was a great coach but lost some control when it came to making workouts mandatory. (He learned from that Mistake and it was at LC when i coached with him.).  Z was let go going into my Senior Year and was replaced by Steve McCurry who was the one that turned the program around.  Steve had won a 4a state championship at AC Reynolds in Asheville and made the administration completely redo the weight room with new equipment, had a football period at the end of the school day to lift, started devil camp, and brought in coaches like Danny Bentley (Still the OL coach), Ballard as the OC, Cody Baugh (QB coach and still there), and even Spradlen who is Greeneville's head coach now as the DB's Coach.  McCurry only coached for two seasons at Greeneville and took a team that had a losing record the year before and finished my Senior Year making it to the Quarters and having a 10-3 record and then followed it up with a Semi Final appearance the next year with an 11-3 record and back to back conference championships.  Loved McCurry to death but the recession hit and the story i heard was he was still buying new equipment for the team that the Principal didn't authorize and his response was "I don't answer to you and only to Niswonger and Bewley" (Two huge donors).  That was it for him and they Promoted Ballard shortly after that.   Greeneville had always been relevant ever since the the late 70's under Coach Fred Sorrell's.  Since Sorrell's took over in 1977 Greeneville overall winning percentage is over 76%.  The biggest reason people might not have thought Greeneville was "Good" until Ballard was Greeneville always played up Classification wise and could never get over the hump. (When there were 3 classifications we played 3a, when it went to 5 we played 4a).  Greeneville is the largest its ever been with 953 students and where playing teams 2 or 3 times there size back in the day (I had a little over 800 kids in the school when i graduated in 2008).  Other teams always would know they would be sore after a game but depth took over and never won a Championship until Greeneville played in the classification the TSSAA actually assigned them. You had names like Dustin Moore (1993 Mr Football for 3a and who Phillip Fulmer said was one of the greatest athletes he ever recruited), James "Mud Turtle" Mayes, Brigham Lyons, Byron Gillespie, Frankie Debusk (National Champion Qb at Furman with GQ), Jasmine Lowery, Cody Baugh, The Greenway Brothers, Joe Watson (Furman), etc.  Now the cultural is from the Pee Wee league up and you grow up as a young kid wanting to wear the Greene and White.  Here is a really good link when it comes to anything Greeneville Football related. https://greenevillefootball.com/   I also don't coach anymore.  Z told me i was to smart with how the school systems are ran these days and ended up going into real estate in Knoxville which has been a great decision for my life.
    • Yes, they will. I'm wondering what kinds of strides Sale Creek will make heading into the second season under Coach Fitz.
