I’ve read the post regarding the Signal Mountain kid who was kicked off the football team for competing at the National wrestling Tournament in Fargo, N.D.

Life is about choices. Truer words were never spoken.

It also takes a choice by an adult to force a 17 year old to choose between sports he loves. During the middle of Summer.

If the Signal Mountain kid blew off football camp, kicking him off the team would be completely understandable. However, in this instance, the kid was competing with elite athletes, which required him to be in elite condition.

How many 17 year olds do that in the Summer?

I wrestled in college, graduated and got a job. I could not have gone to college without wrestling. Thankfully, no one made me choose between that and football or things may have turned out different.

I’ve coached the Signal Mountain kid who was kicked off the football team.

This kids removal from the football team, isn’t about his disregarding the “team†or not being “a team playerâ€. Its resulted in punishing a kid for trying to be the best athlete he can be. All he was trying to do was make a better future for himself.

I ain't takin' sides in this mess, but I suspect if everbody would just cool ther britches a little, they'z a better chance of findin' a compromise.  Ultimately, though, it's the coach's call on who makes the team.  Just look at what happened at South Pitt.

It ain't gonna git resolved on a CoachT message board, though, so ther ain't no reason to argue the details on here.
