BATTLE OF THE BRIDGE

Recommended Posts

What changed from year 1? Hammontree has won a State Champ and decades of experience. What does Ridge have? What side of the ball did Ridge come up coaching? What is the worst phase of the team under his watch? Has discipline or buy-in gotten better or worse under Ridge? Name one thing he has produced on the field to support your blind faith in his ability to lead the Govs to the expectations you possess. I have different sources within the profession that have informed me of his ability to coach football. Interested in why you think he's the answer.

I can tell you that lots of the players on the team have matured alot and are working harder than they did last year. We still have a few slackers in the ranks but the other players are starting to call them out. And I saw Ridge get more angry and animated than I have ever seen at that scrimmage, he chewed those boys butts off and they responded and played better on D to end the scrimmage. We still have work to do but there has been some positive changes.

Listen I'm not trying to be a jerk when I say this. Half of your response was about his actions and the reaction of a team in a scrimmage you claim to be meaningless where they gave up 8 touchdowns. The other half of your response speaks to slackers being called out by players and not coaches, which leads one to believe they are upset because they are getting away with it. None of that sounded very positive.

I don't know what Ridge does behind closed doors. I don't know if he calls out slackers or not, i do know he got hot at that scrimmage. I also know that some of the players are stepping up to the plate and trying to be leaders and I see that as a definite positive.

Eh. Don't buy into the results of a scrimmage man.lol they don't mean a whole lot. Most years we win scrimmages and it hasn't helped us much, heck we even beat maryville in the jamboree and they still went undefeated and won state and we were mediocre. And one year when my brother played at Mcminn Central they looked amazing in their scrimmages and even beat Greenback 50-0 and MC ended up going 2-8 and Greenback went 10-0 and ended up beating a team that beat Central in the regular season. I could come up with about a million other examples of this. Scrimmages don't mean much. Another great example is Seymour beat Maryville in the jamboree in 2008 and Seymour ended up losing to heritage and maryville made it to state. We do have some issues on defense that need to be addressed but we don't need to panic over 1 scrimmage.

I remember that jaboree!GB beat WB 21-0 and took a knee inside the 5 to keel from scoring again.Boy was your coach mad.Ouch...Ridge was the assistant to the assistant D-Coord at the time and he was estatic. Also that was WBs varsity not the "JV". Edited by orngnblk

    • Gleason all over west Carroll in scrimmage. Gleason is big and fast
    • Defending 2A state Champs Westview Lady Chargers are pretty tough. They lost a bunch of production off last year's squad but returned some talent as well. They still McCall Simms, a Tennesseee Lady Vol softball commit as well as solid talent around the diamond. I dont think they are as good as last season but they will definitely be a tough out. Huntingdon Lady Mustangs seem to be pretty stout as well. Don't know much about Riverside other than Westview defeated them earlier in regions. West Tennessee softball is pretty solid all around id say.
    • Eagleville couldn’t catch up to Jones, he did have his location issues but in that game Eagleville popped up everything and the one hit they did have could have been ruled an error. Jeffcoat was a lot sharper in the beginning of the season last year than the end. ER ran out of pitching and still was in striking distance but none the less the better team one. Last seasons tournament was A LOT more balanced and talented. South Pitts starter is a Lefty who was low 80’s but couldn’t maintain his velo throughout the  outing, their #2 was more impressive last year, we knocked him around this year and his mph was down some. Their #3 isn’t bad neither, throws a lot of strikes and sits high 70’s.
    • He actually had a really solid spring.  I could see him getting some backup snaps on offense and be a regular on special teams.  Really athletic kid who can run.
