What's to expect from 6AAA?

Looks like there has been a lot going at Cookeville this summer looking at the "Cookeville Thread".  They are certainly going to be different then expected after several leaving the program.  What's the news on Rhea Co, White Co., Warren Co., Stone Memorial, and Cumberland County?  Stone will be solid with Spence and fellow seniors.  CCHS will be better than last, they have a deep and talented freshmen class coming in.  I think Warren County will be a "team to watch" if the big soph plays this year - lots good Soph talent there.  White County should dominate the district.

i agree with everything you say except don't think stone will be very good.

Coach Capps will have them playing hard no matter what.  Gage Spence has played a lot since he was a freshmen; he needs to be aggressive offensively which he hasn't done since middle school (he didn't really need to, but does now), a couple of good shooting, hustling guards (seniors - Hill, Thomas), big junior in Foster and other underclass that haven't played much, but have potential to complete within district.  Their guys have played well this summer on their AAU teams - I think they are better than you might think, not as good as they have been, but good enough to surprise some folks.

Rhea County had some solid 8th grade players at their Middle School last year, two of them - big 6'3 - 6'5" kids and both could play.  Saw one them on the AAU circuit this summer with TN United out of Cleveland.  His dad mentioned that he may be going to one of the Cleveland schools instead of Rhea Co. though.

Saw two JV games last year involving Stone... I really don't think they will compete for 1st.  No doubt Capps will have them playing hard.  I'd say 3-4 range will be where they finish. White, Cumberland, Cookeville, Stone should be your top 4, not in any order

I'm with 90warrior, I think Warren should be in the mix if their young players are healthy and progressing as they should - they have a lot of young talent.  I watched the "Upper Cumberland" team play in the Rocky Top league last weekend in Knoxville.  The team consists of 3 from Stone (Spence, Hill, Thomas), 2 from Cumberland Co (Poore, Brown)., 2 from Clarkrange (Stems, Crouch), Blevins from York, A. Shrum from Upperman, Hayes from Cookeville.  They beat a group from Austin East / Fulton by 7-8 points.  Blevins, Shrum, and Spence lead the way.

Warren does have good young talent.  2nd in freshman last year iirc?  But I don't know, just something about a new coach, and their culture as of late.  They could turn the ship, but until I see it, I'll have a hard time picking them to finish top 3.

I can't wait for roundball to start (although I'm pumped about football too at the moment).  Should be an interesting district.  A few bold predictions:

1. White County will NOT go undefeated in district play.

2. Rhea County will upset someone this year.

3. Richmond from Cookeville will push Henderson for POY (Henderson still gets it)

4. We will still only have 3 teams to win the new 6AAA tournament (CHS, CCHS, Stone)

yea, a couple of those pretty bold, but hey... it could happen

Hey folks, its your favorite " coach in the loop" lol, I'm only joking. Alumn, i agree on the Richmond kid. Dont think he pushes Henderson but i think he has a great shot at being "runner up" in the district . That kid is drawing some "smaller" college looks! My predictions: White Co RUNS away with district and loses, at most, 1 district game. Not sure they lose one but that is still a huge rivalry with CHS so anything can happen. Im going CCHS/CHS a deadlock for 2nd. I think Stone is 4th at best , with Warren pulling some surprises.

    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
    • All these college signees went yo other schools for 3 years, were getting college offers then transferred to Bearden. It’s not like this staff did much to develop them.    The BBall coaches son and the Seymour transfer were some of the most talented QBs in the region, and you guys developed them into QBs who might complete one pass a game.
