Football and Wrestling

From an article in the Tennessean today on Jashon Robertson.

"Wrestling works wonders," Robertson said. "I've seen guys on my team in high school who had a year or two of wrestling, and they came on the football field a totally different player. It helps with your balance, hands, just leverage, everything. It perfectly relates to football, especially the mental aspect of it. There's something about getting off your back — when somebody has you on your back — and being down in the fourth quarter that completely correlates, that mind-set you have to fight and get up."

Add Robertson to hundreds of football players who have played in college and the pros that credit wrestling with helping them get there.

I will admit that I don't know much about wrestling, but I do know it's an indoor sport. I have played football and know how rough practice is. You are outside in full pads in 80,90,or 100 degree weather and it's very physical and your body gets beat up alot. Whenever I left practice I always exhausted and my body hurt all over. I just don't see how wrestling practice can even come close to football practice. In football you are always out in the elements.

Wrestlers don't just work inside. They also run. And run. And run. And when they're done,, they run. Actual practice is seemingly never-ending extremely intense minutes long exertion, over and over again in the same practice. Hard to explain of you haven't done it.

You just lost any credibility you ever had but don't worry it wasn't a big loss.

Well big earl, im just going from what I have seen. I have played football, basketball, and soccer in my time so I know a thing or two about sports. I have never wrestled but I had a friend who wrestled and I went to one of his practices in high school. And one thing I can tell you is they were on the auditorium stage on the mat the whole time. I did not see anything at that practice that came close to football practice. I would much rather be indoors in shorts and t-shirts than be outside in full pads in the summer heat any day. but that's just my opinion. If people want to think wrestling is harder than football they are entitled to their opinion too. Take a chill pill dude. Lol

    • No reasonable lawyer would take up this case. I am not a lawyer, but I know school law in and out.  Similar situations just like this play out thousands of times each year across the country, even at the college level (i.e. Ole Miss)  The Plaintiff's never win...ever.  If I am wrong, please provide a legal precedent for me. I will be waiting.  https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/39431892/judge-drops-ole-miss-player-lawsuit-lane-kiffin
    • Yes Justin Cruse was named head coach
    • It used to be, I think it still is, a change of 20% +/- gives reason to reclassify. Schools can choose to play up classifications but not down. Here is the mid cycle reclassification info on TSSAA.org When Memphis East changed from a regular public school to an "all-optional" school in 2017 the would've dropped to A but chose to stay in AAA in basketball (baseball, and softball) Penny was still coaching there and with the players they had they would've beaten A teams by 40 and slept walked to the championship. Other Memphis schools stayed in their classifications (mostly in basketball) until the next reclassification cycle. Of course this is the same time that a 4th class was added basketball.
