Linden heads to McEwen this week for the last road game of the year. Linden's (0-8) and McEwen's (1-7). I'm going to throw some stats your way just to see what you think (on paper) how this game may turn out. McEwen has played two teams that have been ranked: Class 1A #9 Clarksville Academy and Class 1A #2 Nashville Christian. Besides the (15-2) record combined by these two institutions, the rest of their schedule is a combined (16-32). Linden has faced two ranked Class 1A teams: #5 Waynesboro and #3 Columbia Academy. Combined they are (14-2) respectively. Also the Vikings have played two Class 3A ranked teams: #10 Centerville and #9 Waverly. Combined they are (13-3). Those four teams that Linden has faced are a combined (27-5). Now the rest of the schedule is (13-20). All together Linden's overall schedule is (40-25), McEwen's (31-34). I know scheduling isn't everything but if you go by that then Linden has played a much tougher schedule. Linden averages (14 points per game) and the Defense gives up (46.3 points per game). McEwen averages (12.6 points per game) and gives up (30.1 points per game). As followed are both teams schedules and results. Should be a good game and i hope the Vikings can come up with a victory to build their momentum for Senior Night.

Don't know how to compare PC with McEwen since I haven't seen PC play, but here's what I know about McEwen.  If they play like they did for the first 2 quarters against us, they would give an average team a good game.  We were only up 14-0 at the half.  The officiating was awful (common theme in 1A from what I've been reading).  It wasn't like they were paid off by McEwen, it was just baaaaad both ways.  We had a 70-year-old gentleman on our sideline that wore hearing aids and they still didn't help.  Coach had to actually step out in front of him to get his attention for timeouts.

The biggest thing that may affect your game with McEwen is that their QB left our game in the second half and I'll be real surprised if he's ready to go by this Friday.  He got clocked and I don't think he had any idea where he was.  They also had a big lineman ejected for an Albert Haynesworth-like stomp to the face so he won't be playing Friday.

PC has been known to try and start fights during games the past few years. Last year was awful, from the 2nd quarter on number 60 I believe it was didn't do nothing but push, shove and gouge just to try and get a WC player to retaliate and maybe ejected to have to miss a game, should have been benched before the half.

Well i've been to every game and we have been very mature with no personal fouls after the play or even during the play for that matter. I always see the guys pick up the player they tackled and pat them on the head or back. Last year was very bad from a disciplined stand point.

Which one is their "best" player? I believe i heard his last name was Crowell, correct?

My wife saw on Facebook that over in Perry County (I live in Jackson) they are having the annual Linden vs. Lobelville Middle School Basketball game tonight. That rivalry right there is just like Alabama and Auburn except it's basketball. Hope there are some young stars in the making in both those two schools in Football and Basketball.

When Clarksville Academy played MCEwen they were well disciplined. They ran the ball decent but we're real bad in their passing game. I think we had 3 interceptions and not sure they completed a pass all night. They were down early so they had to try and pass. I've not see PC.

Also what out for big holes in the field. They do have a new consession stand and bathrooms.

    • Did this happen? Does anyone know? Ripley has their HC job posted on the bulletin board over the weekend.
    • Coalfield definitely isn't the same team they've had the past few years. They are still the favorites to make it out of their region because of their pitching. They have 1 arm that sits low to mid 80s and 2 other arms that are mid to high 70s with good off speed stuff. If you can avoid their top 3 bats in their lineup then you have a shot to beat them. Their 4-9 hitters are average at best. Wartburg's ace was able to shut them down last week in the game Wartburg won 4-2.
    • It is the longest season. Plus, 30 games a year. No Christmas break. I would say basketball is the most time consuming.
    • No movement on Chester? South Gibson? Gibson County?
    • Winfree's senior year was the season she needed to secure more college interest. That opportunity was taken away from her. A lot of false assumptions can be made about what happened and what the options are. Unfortunately, the former coach and administration did not allow Winfree to have due process. A lawsuit was filed for a reason, and it will run its course by people who conduct discovery and take depositions. Unless the parties settle out of court, a lot of the pertinent issues will come to the public surface. I wrote about many of the issues here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/11/17/grounds-for-investigation-and-suspension/ I interviewed Winfree after she was dismissed from the team and wrote about it here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/12/01/a-new-interview-with-sable-winfree/ Winfree had been on teams in Warren County since the fourth grade and never been dismissed from a team. The real questions are why was Winfree dismissed from the team, and why the administration backed a coach whom they did not rehire.
