I think it's WB interested in a great young candidate...

Sources say if things are worked out, candidate is interested in taking over......several things need to line up but several conversation have taken place with candidate and WB people.

This is just my 2 cents....

If they are committed to throwing money at somebody they need to throw it at an older established head coach that knows what the heck he is doing. IMO being an assistant on maryville's staff does not make one a great head coach. If they do go that route they need to make him earn that money by winning. If he wins give him a raise.

Then you would of never hired George Quarles .... further Proof that you should be as far away as possible on any decisions being made at WB .

I never said that... I just said I wouldn't be "throwing money" at an unproven assistant coach. And GQ was not unproven when he was hired as the HC at maryville. Maryville won a state championship after he became offensive coordinator. Edited by Governors91

Pepvol,

All I'm saying is they shouldn't hire a guy just because he is on maryville's staff. I think it's really important that they make a good decision this time around. They need to get a guy who can turn WB into a winner again. Maybe a maryville assistant is the answer but we don't really know that for sure. They don't pay me to make these decisions so I don't really have a dog in the race. But I can tell you that if It was my call and I was going to throw money at someone I would throw it at an established head coach. That's not to say I wouldn't give an assistant a chance by any means. I would tell him I will give him a shot and if he is successful I will give him raises. But I would not throw money at an assistant because it would be a risk. That's what I would do...

    • I have no affiliation with Maryville anymore outside of being a 2nd generation graduate from a large family of Rebel alumni. That relationship ended courtesy of the lame duck AD (a Bearden grad I might add) and the HBIC. That said, I could care less if a private school comes through and offers every promising athlete out of that school or any other school better opportunities.
    • A perfect example is for athletes at Clinton High School. I will completely understand, and hopefully everyone should understand why they want to, and as of right now, it looks like that’s going to happen in numbers over the summer.
    • I mean, that’s easy to say when it hasn’t happened to your school that often, if at all, but yeah, I think everybody should be for the student athlete or player. Whatever they think will help them or their athletic career, I feel like they should be able to do that, even if that means transferring schools. Now I don’t really get that when you have almost every offer you could want and then jump ship, but what can I say? I guess money talks.
    • I for one am all for it.
    • Covid killed the city because they chose not to play football in the 2020 season. Therefore, kids weren't able to practice and develop, and continuing to lift weights. Memphis basically had 7/8 graders, skipping a year, then playing 9/10 high school football. Now, there's only one team that has made a "dent" which will be Southwind (made it to the 5A semifinals last year).  If you want to go more suburbs, then it'll be Houston, which won the 6A state title, defeating Oakland Other than that, I agree.
