Dresden verses Carver

As a person that played and Coached in Memphis I resent that you would act like that is common place... You experienced ONE fluke event and are on here painting the city as if its a war zone. You have no right.

You asked. I don't know if this is common place or not. I just know that if I go to Memphis I don't linger. As far as my right is concerned I can only go from my personal experience. Just saying.

The trip we made a few years back to Crump did make an impression. You can just tell it's not in a great area but at no time was I nervous for the safety of any visiting fans. Having the police at the gate and all around the stadium was different than what we are accustomed to. From what I heard from our boys playing the game, the kids on the opposing team were there to play a game. Nothing out of the ordinary football game activities. Actually, my son enjoyed playing them more than some of our region teams because they just played the game and didn't mouth as much. I think this game will be a very good game to be honest. Pretty sure both teams will score several points and I really hope with Carver being a throw mainly type team we can get a pick or two. On the same side I hope we don't throw a pick or two ourselves.

Only to respond to the guys who are wondering what I meant by "Get in and get out". It's simple actually. When I was in high school back in the 80"s my school played a playoff game in Memphis. While we were doing our warm ups there was gunfire just outside the stadium. I can still hear the shots. Our coach told all of us to get down. We did as he said. We had police escorts to and from the game. Yep. So as a young man that left a lasting impression on me. What would you think if you came to one of our small towns and experienced the same? So turn it or twist it anyway you want. I'm only going on my experience. Simple.

You can go by your experience and we will go by ours. Memphis is a large city and there is a crime problem. However, that doesn't make going to a high school football game a life risking event. I, like you, played in a game back in the late 70's where gunshots rang out. This was before gangs and neighborhood rivalries. It was the only time I experienced something like that. I was a sophomore in high school. I was scared. The game was at BTW. (BTW was actually a large school in the late 70's) We had to go back to play at BTW my senior year. Everything went smooth.

Look .. you have a right to tell your story. However, shootings at games is not common place. Does Memphis have more crime then a rural town? Of course it does. However, going to a high school football game in a small rural town is like going to a game in a large city. There are more police (City and County) then you can shake a stick at. It's probably one of the more safest places to be on a Friday night in the city.

People who are not from Memphis read your 'warning' and they look behind every corner thinking the boogie man is out to get them. It just isn't so. The folks at Arlington RAN to the bus after a Whitehaven game. They had heard all of the horror stories of playing in Memphis and were so full of fear ... they literrally told thier football team to run to the bus. This, after they had been to our stadiums 2 times before for playoff games. It was ridiculus to see and downright offensive to be truthful. But I digress.

However ... continue to warn unsuspecting rural folks of the dangers of attending a game in Memphis. It kills our revenue at the games which makes it harder for the smaller programs. But hey ... you warned everybody. If they get mugged, killed, or robbed ... if your women get raped and molested ... you did your due dilligence and warned them.

This is why I should stay off of boards that don't mention Whitehaven... What u mean ?

Lmao man u already know, its so funny to me the amount fear some of them have and spread. I think people on the smaller boards are more open with it cause they're not used to us coming on here with a response. Most r cool tho, it would be ignorant to categorize them all based on a few idiots tho...

You know exactly what BigSwo means. That's why he put the disclaimer before he made his statement about making his statement regardless of who his statement might offend.

You know it when you see it.

Take care of business tonight and you'll get your shot at Big Swo's Tornadoes!!!

stirringitup:

The three of us are Whitehaven fans. We run through the boards, regardless of classification, becasue we realize that most of the schools from the City of Memphis don't have representation on here. So we take it upon ourselves to make sure that the Carver's and Trezevant's of the world have folk making comments on their behalf.

I'm a Whitehaven fan first. Then I'm a City of Memphis fan next. Then I'm a state of Tennessee fan. In that order. So when a school from TN plays an out of state school ... I root for the school from TN. When a school from the City of Memphis plays  a school that isn't from the city (or a private school) ... I root for the team from the City of Memphis. When Whitehaven plays ... I root for Whitehaven. That's how I am and I'm not the only one.

It is unfortunate that people in a rural town fear for their life when they come to Memphis.  If you go looking for trouble, whether in a small town or Memphis, you can probably find it.  Memphis is a great city with a lot of positive things and unfortunately it has some negative things just like other metro areas.  Midtown is a great area that is being revitalized.  One street will have million dollar homes and a street over you will hear gun fire.  I look forward to seeing this game and the athletes that are playing in it.  Win or lose it is a good experience for our young men.
