kwc
Ex- Titan quality control coach and USC QB Richie Wessman hired at Ravenwood Ex- Titan quality control coach and USC QB Richie Wessman hired at Ravenwood Nearly three months after Will Hester resigned, Ravenwood have found the man to succeed him. Richie Wessman, 35, was introduced as the Raptors new head football coach at a school press conference this afternoon. Wessman has served as the recruiting coordinator and quarterbacks/wide receiver coach for Division II college University of Minnesota Crookston which finished the 2015 season with a 1-10 record, after going winless (0-11) in 2014. “We are excited to begin a new era in our football program and welcome Coach Wessman to the RHS staff. He will begin coaching and teaching here this week, which will ensure continuity in spring work outs and practice,†Ravenwood principal Pam Vaden said. He replaces Will Hester who led the Raptors to the Class 6A state title and a 14-1 record in 2015. Hester is now the new head football coach and athletic director at Nolensville high school, a new school that will open next year in Williamson county. Hester took over the Raptor program in 2013 and paid immediate dividends compiling a 38-4 record which included back to back 6A state games and identical 14-1 records (in 2014 and 2015). The Raptors dethroned Maryville 26-17 earlier this month breaking the Rebels 44 game winning streak. This will be Wessman’s first head coaching job after coaching in college and at the pro level. Before coaching at Minnesota Crookston, he was the Quality Control coach focusing on offense for the Tennessee Titans (2009-13) under current Los Angeles Rams head coach Jeff Fisher. Fisher and Wessman share a common school as both played college football at Southern California as Wessman played quarterback for current Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll for two seasons (2000-2001). He was buried on the depth chart behind 2003 Heisman Trophy winner Carson Palmer and current Dallas Cowboys quarterback Matt Cassel. After graduation, he was an offensive assistant for the Trojans for two seasons (2004-05) as USC won the national championship in 2004. A San Clemente native, Wessman joins Scott Blade (Independence), Jeff Cortez (Lenoir City) and Fred Shambaugh (MTCS) as coaches from California who are head coaches in the Volunteer State. There are 15 schools that are currently looking for a head coach they are: Whitwell, Howard, Gibson County, Sheffield, Dickson County, East Hickman, Jackson North side, East Ridge, Chattanooga Central, CAK, Jackson County, Sunbright, West Creek and Westwood.
