This is a long post, but it's a guess where everyone would fall in six classes, using the latest numbers (which will come out again this fall). I added four at the top which had teams in Class A, but I didn't know their enrollments. I took out Jackson Central Merry which closed, and two charters in Chattanooga that didn't have teams that I know of. With about 53 in each class, you'd have 8 regions in each class. Again these numbers will change, some by a lot, this fall, plus you probably have even more teams starting especially in the smaller charters. * just means no football.

Someone mentioned the way Kentucky does it above. As someone that follows both KY & TN girls basketball just as hard as anyone, I would agree that Kentucky has the best system. One state champion for the entire state.

They do have an All "A" State championship held in the season that gives only Single-A teams a chance to play in that state tourney, but then single-A can also compete in the actual state tourney in March.

But there are too many state champions in Tennessee for my liking.

If football student athletes deserve 6 classes, then basketball deserves 6 period! It's about student athletes having equal opportunity. If travel is a problem then have smaller districts, thus less travel dates like AL does. If this 'waters down' basketball, then the 6A football championship must really be a joke?

One thing I've seen, a possibility is having the same schools divided for football, basketball, possibly baseball and softball, whether they have the sports or not. That is a mistake and leads to uneven numbers in districts. Some schools don't have football, a few don't have softball mostly in inner cities. Divide by the number of teams participating in a sport, not the number of schools.

I think 2 Memphis schools closed and will not be counted in the next class breakdowns, shows how things could change especially for those at the cutoffs of each possible system.

In this scenario districts might be done away with. 8 regions with 6-7 teams in each. TSSAA would lose money but it makes sense.

TSSAA would not lose money, they would possibly just not make as much. As a governing body TSSAA should be working for us but it seems like $$$ is by far most important. Money has turned what should be our governing body into a corrupt organization that has the student athlete taking a back seat to $$$$! I really feel like when the vote happens in July that TSSAA will have enough influence on the Board to keep it the same. I hope I am wrong because I really feel like change is needed.

I'm hearing the same thing as far as having board support but that the TSSAA is going to try and 'buffalo' the board into keeping things the same.....
