I think you will enjoy the trip Bars, and Copland is a really talnated player but to beat you guys it will take a lot more then him.

Reb I am not worried about you keeping it close, but rather that you don't run away with it again, but probably will.

alt: Thanks for the thread, are there any plans to have a 76 team reunion? Hard to believe that was 40 years ago.

I have not heard of anything specific, although I dare say there will be something on one or more of the radio stations locally.

I know some stuff is being planned for the 100 year celebrations, and am sure something will come along for the 1976 football team as well.

I find it hard to believe too since I will be attending our 40th class reunion in the spring as well LOL Yes, I was among the crazies in the stands that never shut up that season.

Some good games, some interesting games....

Clinton almost ended in a brawl, on a nasty cold rainy night, after Bradley wins on a last second FG and Clinton's coach took a swing at ours.

Baylor was the 73 Champion and tough to beat under Red Etter, in any season.

Kirkman was averaging over 40 points a game and our defense completely shut them down.

Bradley took a 21-0 lead at halftime and held on to beat Dobyns-Bennett 24-18 at a neutral site.... Sevier County High School.

Kingsbury 43 13 W

McMinn County 41 14 W

Chattanooga Central 7 0 W

Red Bank 9 6 W

Fayette Ware 26 8 W

Clinton 10 7 W

Cleveland 21 13 W

Baylor 28 7 W

East Ridge 27 14 W

Rhea County 23 0 W

Kirkman 18 0 W Playoff

Dobyns-Bennett 24 18 W Playoff

Jackson Central-Merry 50 48 W Playoff

Couple of interesting things about that season....

Charleston High, a single A school that is gone now, lost it's chance to win the District to the eventual Single A State Champions.

Cleveland High lost in the 2nd round to Maryville, the eventual state champions in AA.

Some very good teams out of Bradley County that season.

I believe that was Kirkmans only winning season. They had a giant line the biggest was Jonah Daniels 6ft 8 well over 300 lbs. went to Memphis I think. Also won the state heavy weight wrestling title I'm pretty sure that was when it was unlimited.

Jonah won HWT in 1975, Chris Vandergriff from Halls won HWT in 76 and 77. It was unlimited, Pearl and Maplewood both had HWTs that were as big as Jonah.

Yes. I knew he only win it one year. I'm not sure he wrestled any other time. I knew one of his teammates and he told me Jonah knew zero about wrestling and didn't like it. He just simply over powered everyone. No technique just a brute. Times free press did a story on him when they use to have the "Where are they Now " series. On the Bradley nite they did one on Kinny Hooper. To this day I think he was the best player I ever saw from Bradley.

  • 2 weeks later...

I was looking at the schedule Thursday night, and I really feel we have a very good chance at a 6-1 Region result. The Bears will be stronger in most areas than last year, and not so sure I can say the same for the rest of the Region outside of Maryville.

Not saying it is easy but the possibilities are there.

    • Wouldn't the easiest move be to move McCall up to HS Principal and have Gulley take over as MS Principal?
    • Bounder, you are correct. And it is so easy today. As a civilian today, I can check my 6th grade grandson’s grades in real time. 46 years ago as a young head coach, I knew who were my weak students and would do a weekly check. A decade and 1/2 later as an administrator, I would ask guidance for attendance, and grade reports as I did my own discipline reports. 5 years later I could run all those reports in a few minutes. today Text one the Secretaries and they can create a red flag report only printing the names with D’s and F’s or attendance and discipline issues. You are not even dealing with a whole team. The only problem with modern technology is someone who might not want to know.
    • No I didn't,  I just know jellico lost a few and should in playoffs tho....but they have alot coming in the next few yrs
    • The buck stops with the head coach, he should have know if any of his players  were not making the required grades. Either he has someone checking weekly before games and reporting to him or he should do it himself.
    • Freedom Prep has discontinued their football program. These are the teams that were on their schedule in case you are looking for a game:
