How are West TN teams looking after the first couple of games?

Not at all saying that it would be a GC win. But GC was also playing without there starting center from last year that would have helped with the big girls for sure.

GC having Burkett wouldn't have made a difference against Westview.

The Westview game wouldn't have been a win in January...you forget their stud point guard is out until Jan and they still were able pull out a W.

 

When I stated earlier 9-1 or 8-2....I do think GC would have played a closer game, but the WV Defense was probably the best we've seen this year. I respect the WV program, just stating opinion.

May not have been a win. But how can you say it wouldn't have made a difference. Doesn't make a lot of since saying having a starter back from a state runner up team wouldn't make you better.

Easy tiger.....she would have been another big body for GC, but Westview is just too big, too strong. It's not like she's a big scorer, would've maybe added another 7pts-5rebs. Burkett will make a difference against the smaller single A teams. And please don't give me that " returning starter from last year's state runner up " crap, b/c GC has all their " returning key reserves from last year's state runner up " but still managed to lose 4 of their first 10....correct ? All I said is that Burkett wouldn't have made a difference against b/c she's not a big scorer. I like her game, she's a banger. Next time listen with your head and not with your heart. I'm a GC fan, Wilkins is one of the best !!

lol I'm not saying we would have won. I just feel like we would have handled the big girls a little better win her than without her. Not trying to start an argument. Honestly feel like even though we've lost some games we have exceeded expectations so far. All of our losses are against very good teams. And they were all close. My only point is we would have been better and matched up better with her than without her. And really GC went about 7 deep last year and only 3 of the 7 are back gettin playing time this year. Burkett when healthy is a beast down low (12-20 points a game). I still think Westview is a better team, but GC will be a tough out late in the year especially having Burkett back.

For the record, Westview did not play with their starting point guard all summer and split their team into two teams for the whole summer. So your 1-2 record was only against half their team

I might have to agree with you here. I watched 2 of the 3 games this summer and I don't believe we could have won any of them if the teams had been put together. I didn't get to watch the game that GC won, but I did witness the 2 losses. Graves beat us in one and Moore beat us in the other. WV has a bunch of players and are a good program. I didn't know how WV would be with the loss of the shutdown defender from last year, but WV has some defenders on that team. I hope yall do well this year and should even be better when Jones returns. Good luck this year.

We played their A team with all their starters and beat them at UTM.

Not trying to continue this, but Sports Lover up there is right. GC didn't play their entire team this summer. It was all split squad. Someone said the only game they were combined was against a private school with like 3 or 4 D1 prospects and they got beat by 1 or 2 and Jones was injured.
