My opinion is that beerman is ignorant to any knowledge of high school football.

I'm going to give my two cents worth on Lawless, and it's just my honest opinion. Keep in mind I'm not bashing as I have much respect for NCS and Lawless but he's not the best lineman this year and I've seen a lot of lineman over the years that I thought were better than the winners. Silvey is mr football, he is one of the better lineman I've seen in a long time. College offers don't make you the best, or even really good when you got size like he does with good speed. I'll give you a couple of examples then I'll sit here and get hammered from some other posters. Alex Givens, not a great high school lineman but was recruited on his size alone, ole miss taught him to play and is doing well but I watched him get his butt handed to him more than once in high school. Another is Hutchinson from Huntingdon, not a great lineman but was big and fast and I'm sure South Carolina will turn him into a fine player. Last year at WC which was his senior year, coach Rice had a freshman lined up on him all night and he only had a couple of tackles if that and they were on busted plays where the qb scrambled around. Like I said I'm not bashing them but Silvey deserves the award, just being big, fast and highly recruited don't make you good

What is this mess about? I garuntee that Roy has the best synopsis's on games on this durn board. He no's about hole nockers, pass catchers, and runners. He also no's that lifting weights will make you strong and chasing chickens will make you fast and how big you have to be to play in the SEC. He no's that you don't flap your lips and make other boy's coaches real mad before you play, and he tried to tell them people in Jasper about the SOS before they paid him all their peewee league money to. Roy is to smart to fall for this mess.

I understand your point. GIvens wasn't a completely dominant player in high school. Heck, I think he's doing better in the SEC than he did in high school. Good to see him get much better and do well though. I didn't say that Lawless should win Mr. Football because of offers. I just said that because beerman challenged me lol. After reviewing Lawless's film again, and watching Silvey's, I think Lawless is the better player. That's why I asked if it was based on stats. I'm sure Silvey has better stats because Lawless was literally triple teamed almost every play. If it goes by stats, then Silvey had the stats and, by all means, should win the title of Mr. Football. If I remember correctly, Bituli didn't have the stats that some did last year, but he won because he was such a factor. I figured it'd be the same way this year. No hard feelings! Like I said, congrats to Silvey.

Any lineman that's the caliber of Givens, Lawless , Silvey and many more will be double and triple teamed every play, it's when they still make plays is what seperates them and the fact that when they're doubled up on is leaving other players unblocked so stats don't mean much on the defensive line. On the offensive side the lineman can be graded on percentage of blocking the right person and number of missed blocks and assignments. Back when I played it was pin your ears back and go when the ball is snapped, now a defensive tackles biggest job is to control the line, read the guards and keep the linebackers unblocked. I've said for years that a good defensive tackle has to be the most unselfish player on the team, giving up plays by doing their job so others can.

Absolutely. And I know both do a great job of that.
