2017 Class 2A Coaches Poll: Murphy Fair Magazine

I think Donovan Stewart's poll is more accurate honestly. We aren't the 3rd best team in the state just like sp isn't the #1 team in 1A.

Donovan does a really good job every year. He's the only one that votes in his poll.  Murphy's is a coaches poll.

I don't think SP is the #1 team in 1A just yet but absolutely believe the Pirates are very capable of being the team to beat.

Same with Jasper.  Sure, yall have lost some solid players from the year before but still a very seasoned team that has been to Cookeville 3 straight years.  Jasper is capable of getting back there. And once you do, who knows?

I still say 1A was tougher than 2A since 2013.. looks like that finally changed back this year

In my opinion there isn't a lot of difference in the top 1A schools and top 2A schools in most years. In these 2 classes you can take 1 outstanding player and ride him to a title.

Anything is possible I guess. Last year most people knew before the season started that it would probably be MC vs AE and SP vs Greenback to go to Cookeville. This year it's between SP and Coalfield more than likely. I also believe MC and TC are on a collision course. We lost a lot of key players but return some as well. Our seniors this year will start the season having been a part of 45 games in their careers already.

Pp68 you are wrong. I went and looked in my old Murphy Fair books and you fellars have only played in 44 games the past three years not 45.  Can you fellars not count round the jailhouse? That is what has got you fellars in trouble with that Childress man a few times.  You think im joking but im not.

Roy you're right. It's only 44. I must have been counting that spring game we had this year.... Oh wait. Never mind.

Tell Wendy thanks for giving that 2A pole back to Murphy. I figure she fell in love with that 2A pole after that little 1A pole of yours. You know I ain't jokin either.

I say you folks around the jailhouse lured Murphy down to the RedEye and snatched his 2A pole since yall couldn't get on top of it.  PegLeg and PowerP with the help of that dog tracked it down and flew it back to Murphy.

I think Pegleg and PowerP helped steal that 2A pole for Wendy. They have already stole Roy's Murphy Fair book and his thermos.

    • That was after the 2nd year of a 4 year cycle.  Since Covid we have been on a 2 year cycle.  So, there really isn't a "mid cycle" reclassification this time.   Idk if there's anything in place to address the issue of a school closing.  My guess is, nothing can be done.  This would be akin to the 1st year of a 4 year cycle, where a school has the 20% +/- but not allowed or even have the option to move up or down.
    • No reasonable lawyer would take up this case. I am not a lawyer, but I know school law in and out.  Similar situations just like this play out thousands of times each year across the country, even at the college level (i.e. Ole Miss)  The Plaintiff's never win...ever.  If I am wrong, please provide a legal precedent for me. I will be waiting.  https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/39431892/judge-drops-ole-miss-player-lawsuit-lane-kiffin
    • Yes Justin Cruse was named head coach
    • It used to be, I think it still is, a change of 20% +/- gives reason to reclassify. Schools can choose to play up classifications but not down. Here is the mid cycle reclassification info on TSSAA.org When Memphis East changed from a regular public school to an "all-optional" school in 2017 the would've dropped to A but chose to stay in AAA in basketball (baseball, and softball) Penny was still coaching there and with the players they had they would've beaten A teams by 40 and slept walked to the championship. Other Memphis schools stayed in their classifications (mostly in basketball) until the next reclassification cycle. Of course this is the same time that a 4th class was added basketball.
