ND @ Webb

Webb have a stable of athletes over there and played a great game. They played with class and were well coached. They are fast. ND needs to win the clock battle. If they do, then it'll be a great game to watch. I feel they matchup pretty evenly. I know that Jahlil and Elijah have gotten a lot of press, and they should, they are phenomenal athletes. They are fast. I knew Ernst was a good LB, but I had no idea that he could run the ball so well. He was a great player and classy. They were fast. He complimented my son on his play and that shows respect and maturity. Glad he will be playing at USMA and serving our country. Oh did I mention.....They were fast

I'm glad to see that our players were classy on the field. Sometimes in the heat of battle that can be lost. We've got some very confident guys on the team and it's good to know they kept it from going into the cocky/classless area. All the players you mentioned are good players and good kids. That doesn't surprise me that Ernst would say something like that. He's that kind of kid. I'm sure Grace was the same. I really hope you guys can win out the rest of the regular season if possible.

You guys were able to control the clock in the first half. That was huge! Great game plan by coaches. 2nd half Webb was able to get some stops and create more offensive possessions and the speed is what eventually did Grace in. As I said previously you guys are a lot lot better than your record and what people think. Give Greenback all the want Friday night!

- these 2 teams have opposed each other just 10 times in their school history with Webb dominatin the series 8-2....most recent game played back in 2004 when Webb won 22-7.....ND last win of only 2, gainst Webb, came back in 2002 when the Irish eaked out the victory 20-17

- State Championships:

     * Webb - 8 (6 in DII)

     * ND - 0

This has no bearing on the game this year but just my 2 cents.  Booger, I am not trying to undermine your quick facts, just not sure how far back your ND history book goes.

I was part of the other ND win over Webb in 1997.  I do not remember the exact score but we won on a field goal with seconds left in the game. It was lots of fun and obviously a game I remember 20 years later.

Webb was a tough, well coached team but we were able to pull out a win. Webb beat us in the playoffs the same year. We kinda limped into the playoffs with lots of injures. Outside of the 9-1 regular season team from 1996, that was the best team I was on at ND.

This was after the McCallie wrestling(probably other schools) issue/ lawsuits and public and private became split.  From my understanding this was the first public/private split and may have been the first time ND played Webb.

Go Irish!

no undermined taken.......tho one thing U can find on T is some bad quick facts......there R sum real nuclear physicals on here that no stuff

.....Yes sir, Irish99, U were part of the only other ND team to defeat Webb.....and yes Sir you were also part of the first ND team to ever play Webb......AND the first ND team to defeat Webb.....the Irsh won 24-21 in that first meetin of 97'......Webb got payback in that 2nd meetin of 97'....14-0 in the first round of the playoffs.....

....some other nice bit of ND history for Irish99's absorption....tho Booger is sure U probably no of such ND trivia

.....that 1996 Lamar Brown coached 10-2 team Irish99 was on was the first ever Irish Squad to ever win 9 games in a regular season and only the 2nd squad to ever win 10 games in a season.......at least as far as the documented record books from 1943 show.....the other team bein the 1978 10-3 squad

.....and the Irish have had only 3 10-plus win season since Irish99's 1996 season....with 2 of them have comin under Fants leadership in the last 5 years

well done Irish99 and Go Irish

I do think ND is probably better. You say superior. What specific things in your two games with them did you see that makes ND four scores better than Grace?

Curious. Not disagreeing.

The biggie-speed

We are young and inexperienced in some key positions. We gave them (Grace Knox)the ball several times. If we would have had just a trace of offense, the score would have been a lot closer.

Thanks for letting me relive that, now off to a corner to cry.

I was actually on that 1978 team - I was pretty good at warm ups - and my son was on the 13-1 2005 team. That was a really strong team with a stout defense and some skill on offense. Wilson Cates was pretty amazing for Livingston Academy in ND's only loss. Only other individual effort I've personally witnessed that was as good was Adarius Bowman against McCallie the year the Tornado won the state. 2001 I believe. AD is currently a star with the Edmonton Eskimos. Cates is probably a nuclear engineer brain surgeon poet laureate these days. Young man did everything but sell the hot dogs against ND that cold cold day.

You only went back to 1943??? We have another 80 or so years of history before, right?

Just giving you a hard time.

I appreciate the post and I did not know that we were one of the better ND teams up to that point in our history. Coach Brown and assistants were great coaches and leaders.  ND football has some interesting story lines and history and in some cases game video. There are way more qualified people to discuss this but in the off season or when you get a chance dig up the game film from Meigs Co. game around 1987 or 1988.  From my understanding, ND had the first ever female to score points in a TSSAA football game. She was a kicker.

The 1996 ND victory was at Webb and a tough game. Before the game the Webb announcer droned on and on and on about nonsense and the field day winners from Kindergarten through elderly division.... It was monotone and impossible to get away from. It felt like some kind of FBI interrogation noise.

The ND kicker was very good and consistent. He played football at the next level but that game wining kick was the worst looking kick he ever kicked... it was in a flat spin and barely cleared the cross bar. lol. Did not matter because we still sang the fights song in the locker room.

 Obviously Coach Fant and company have done some great things and had the most successful era at ND.

I live hundreds of miles away, is any media covering the game? radio or t.v.?

Go Irish!

Johnny is thinkin' you fellers up in east TN will be shocked what an entire fast team looks like. Yes, those two speedsters are fast and 1 may be the fastest on the field. ND has more athletes though top to bottom, and 1 big time OL that dominates games. Goin' to be a great matchup no doubt but johnny thinks the speed advantage goes to the irish... ND coachin' advantage though... not so much

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
