Whenever the Whitehaven offense takes the field at a key point in the game, some of the fans will start up a chant that goes a little something like this: "O, get ready to roll, O get to roll."

If the Tigers offense can continue to roll like it did Friday, another trip to Cookeville could be on the cards.

Quarterback Vincent Guy scored on an 81-yard touchdown run with 2:19 remaining as Whitehaven (11-2) advanced to the Class 6A semifinals for the fourth year in a row, defeating visiting White Station 41-20. The Tigers will travel to Nashville on Friday to take on Cane Ridge, which defeated Ravenwood 21-18.

"Everything starts being being able to run the football," said Tigers coach Rodney Saulsberry. "Those guys have re-dedicated themselves up front and everything begins and ends with them. We can really see it on film.

"We still make mistakes. But overall just the job that they're doing ... and with the guys we have with the ball in their hands. It just makes their job easy if the line stays focused and serious."

White Station — which scored last-minute victories over Arlington and Germantown in the first two rounds — looked poised to pull off another shocker with the score tied 20-20 midway through the fourth quarter.

But Vanderbilt commitment Rayshad Williams, who caught a 48-yard touchdown pass from Guy in the first half, picked off Drew Lyons at the goal line. Big runs from Guy and Chris Witherspoon got the ball down to the Spartans' 4 before Keyshawn Lewis punched it in to make it 26-20 and cap a lightning-quick 99-yard drive.

Guy, who had fumbled at crucial point in the third quarter, made up for it by zipping through the defense on his team's next possession to seal it.

"What a great play," said Saulsberry of Williams' interception. "Everything was kind of falling apart. I told them this week, 'There's a great story being told at White Station. Everybody's talking about the great things that they're doing, being on a roll at the right time.'

"But told our team, 'You've got the last chapter to write.' It was a great story for three and half quarters."

The Spartans end the year 5-8 and will rue some missed opportunities through the course of the game. Twice, White Station was forced to settle for Micah Breckenridge field goals when touchdowns would have really been more useful.

"I appreciate all that," said Spartans coach Joe Rocconi of the Tigers' praise for his team's effort. "But obviously we're not satisfied with the that.

"We had several opportunities. You can't get in the red zone as many times as we did ... field goals are great but if one of those is a touchdown then this whole thing is a little different."

Cane Ridge, which is coached by former Melrose coach Eddie Woods, is 12-1 and has won 11 in a row since losing to Brentwood in Week 2. They'll be confident. But so will Whitehaven.

" Our confidence level? One hundred percent," said linebacker Martavius French. "No, over 100 percent. One thousand percent. It feels good man."
