Post Season Tourney Changes

here is the change that needs to be made:

Teams can go 3-3 in tourney and make state. #ridiculous

option 1

1) top 3 from district make region, make that 3rd place game worth something

2) 2v3 in region with winner playing AT 1 on home floor (makes a district title worth something)

3) then region finals with that team advancing to state!

Too many chances to lose at tourney time. a team can go 3-3 in tourney and go to state. #ridiculous

at some point, the best team in the area, has to step up and win or go home

option 2

1) same, but in region tourney you bring 4 districts together D 1-4 is region 1, D5-8 is region 2, D9-12 is Region 3, and D13-16 is Region 4....each region would have 12 teams 2v3 games with 4 district champs getting a bye to quarterfinals. Higher seed hosts until semis, then those are at a middle point....winners of these games go to state. Region final winners would play against region final losers at state.

I LIKE THIS ONE THE BEST

D1 #1 plays winner of #2 district 2 v #3 district 3

D2 #1 plays winner #2 district 3 v #3 district 4

D3 #1 plays winner of #2 district 4 v #3 district 1

D4 #1 plays winner of #2 district 1 v #2 district 2

I say we just do it like they do up in Kentucky.... Have 16 regions, take the winner from each region and bring them to the state tournament... 16 teams, 1 champion...

If you've ever been to the Kentucky state tournament, you'll know that it's a great atmosphere along with some great ball games!

It doesn't matter what format is played out because people will still keep whining about something:

1. The better team had an off night and didn't win.

2. A better team was left out of the tournament altogether.

3. Team X had it a cake walk to the final, making easier for them to win it all.

4. The best two teams played in the quarter final game.

5. Add your favorite complaint to the list.

The only change that needs to be made is for everyone to understand that when you need give it your best you need to accept the outcome.

You can't lose 3 times in tournament and make state only 2 times, you have to win at least 3  times though. Yoiu win regular season district title you deservedly get auto bid to region and a first round home game. Then you have to win region semi game to advance to sweet 16 (sectional). You have to win sectional to advance to state. So that' only 2 times you can lose once district tourney starts, once in district semis or finals and in region finals. However in elite 8 after the draw is done the teams listed as home shoiuld actually be at home and then have semis and state title game at glass house. Maybe having top 4 teams in region hosting game instead of at a neutral site. Example: region 1 (district 1 and 2) district 1  #1&2 hosting district 2 #3&4 and vice versa. Then the winners play at higher seed or district regular season champs. Or if you win the district regular season u host district tournament and you win that you host region tournament. Makes it worth something to win district instead of sandbagging till tourney time. Only have it at neutral site if both district champs make region title game. But win or lose that game you host sectional game. Example region 3 and 4 runners up hosts region 3 and 4 3rd and 4th place. Then winners host super regional (sweet 16) with winners going to state and then the draw determines who the  home teams are for state quarters (elite 8)

A team can lose three post-season games and still make it to Murfreesboro. But they need to be the right three: A team can loses the district semi final game; then lose the consolation game for #3, #4 seeding (four teams per district go to the regional tournament; then lose the region final game, but advance to the sectional game. If a team wins that game they get to go to Murfreesboro.

p.s. Please stop it with your inane, convoluted post-season suggestions.

I like this format. It would go a long way in weeding out the truly weaker teams and give us a better state tournament with more competitive games.

You can lose 3 times...you have not thought things through very well. 2 posts in and you are in over your head.

    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
    • All these college signees went yo other schools for 3 years, were getting college offers then transferred to Bearden. It’s not like this staff did much to develop them.    The BBall coaches son and the Seymour transfer were some of the most talented QBs in the region, and you guys developed them into QBs who might complete one pass a game.
