Last season, the Fairley High Bulldogs out of Memphis, TN went 8-3 under the leadership of Gene Robinson III, who was in his 1st year at the school as the HC. Last year Fairley was the region champs going 5-0. They lost in the 1st round of the playoffs to Adamsville by a score of 13-6.

Gene is a high school alum of Whitehaven High School. He played his college football as a Safety at the University of North Carolina. Gene eventually made his way back to Memphis, where he began his career in coaching as an assistant coach to Coach Saulsberry at Whitehaven. That is critical information because he learned a lot of things while working under coach Saulsberry. The most important thing he probably learned is how coach Saulsberry has multiple players, each season, sign Letters Of Intent (LOI) to play football in college. Coach Saulsberry is the best high school coach in Tennessee at this, and coach Robinson learned from the best. Five years ago, Gene created a consulting company called Genetic Sports. Genetic Sports hosts free football clinics annually at the Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium called 'Make the Right Call'.  (See flyer below)

Last year Gene got the job late in the summer close to the start of the season. He's had a whole year to work with the young men. He's had a whole year to endoctrinate his players in 'how to get into college' on a football schaolarship. Grades and a good score on the ACT are necessary. He learned how to endoctrinate while he was an assistant at Whitehaven, watching how they do it over the years. He has taken that model, along with his knowledge of running a summer camp, into turning the Fairley football program a top notched program.

According to his twitter page, he's already instituted the ACT prep courses for his boys. ACT-2. ACT-3.

He has also convinced his elite players and their parents the value of having their sons go to football camps ... and not just one. Now, he has two of his players to get invited to the prestigious Nike Opening. Kendrick Savage and Terry Wilkins. This is pretty awesome. I'm going to be keeping an eye on Fairley. I'll try and post what I can. I think they will be a contender for the 2A title coming out of Memphis, as long as Gene is the HC at Fairley.

All of this is going on in a 2A public school located in the Whitehaven community in Memphis, TN. This is HUGE. Those who live here know what I am talking about.

I think Gene will do great things at Fairley for another 2-3 years but I think he's definitely college coaching bound

Yeah, I don't think Gene will be at Fairley for too long. He's just too talented and driven. How far do you thnk Fairley will go this year?

Without seeing them or the other talent in west Tenn I would assume quarterfinals at least.

If Fairley is going to make it to the championship game, then they are probably going to have to go through Region 7 teams to get there. Region 7, in 2A, consists of the following top 4 teams that are all pretty good. Adamsville, Peabody, Trinity Christian, and Union City. Last year, Union City won the 2A state championship in double overtime.  The top 4 in Region 8 are Fairley, Douglass, Manassas, and Mitchell. Fairley beat all of them in the regular season last year. Hamilton and MAHS are in that region as well.

I think they will win a 1st round game and make it to the round of 16. It just depends upon how the season goes. I think they will have the ability (Talent and Depth) to make it to the quarters. Coaching in the playoffs is different from coaching in the regular season. I think coach Gene  and the Fairley coaching staff will figure it out after a while as a they get experience doing it.

Thanks Mike. I'll try to remember to tell him when I see him. I might not see him for a little while.
