Here is a look at the top high school football games in the Memphis area for Week 3 of the 2018 regular season.

GAME OF THE WEEK

Cordova (2-0) at Whitehaven (2-0)

When: 7 p.m., Friday

After the Wolves and Tigers played in a football doubleheader Saturday, there shouldn’t be much of a guessing game when it comes to preparations. Cordova receiver Falandis Norry will look to extend his touchdown streak to three games. Whitehaven quarterback Vincent Guy is coming off a three-touchdown performance, including the game-winner to Cameron Sneed with 21 seconds left in a 21-14 win over Ridgeway.

Houston (1-1) at Arlington (2-0)

When: 7 p.m., Friday

For the second consecutive outing, Arlington senior Kenny Walker scored five touchdowns to propel the Tigers to victory — last week being a 49-21 win over St. George’s. It will take a collective defensive effort from Houston stay competitive in this Region 7-6A opener. Houston suffered a 49-28 loss to Germantown in Week 2. When both are healthy, Lincoln Pare and Chris Colebank give the Mustangs a formidable 1-2 punch out of the backfield.

White Station (0-2) at CBHS (1-1)

When: 7 p.m., Friday

Give White Station credit — it doesn’t typically schedule cupcakes as the Spartans gear themselves for region play. So, losses to a pair of undefeated squads (Briarcrest and DeSoto Central) should only help down the road. Up next, however, is Christian Brothers, which fell to Bob Jones (Ala.) 17-16 on a late score. The CBHS scoring has been done by tailback Al Wooten (two TDs) and kicker Ethan Fitschen (three FGs).

Bartlett (0-2) at Collierville (1-1)

When: 7 p.m. Friday

Winless in four Region 7-6A contests a season ago, Bartlett will look to turn its luck around. Quarterback Preston Raines has been steady, passing for 231 yards in Week 1 and scrambling for three short TD runs in last week’s 53-0 win over Bolton. Collierville rebounded from a season-opening loss to Olive Branch by holding off another DeSoto County team, Center Hill, 9-6. QB Mitch Austin has many receiving options, including Justin Stonework, who had eight catches for 74 yards in Week 1.

ECS (2-0) at FACS (1-1)

When: 7 p.m., Friday

The momentum from ECS beating Knoxville Webb at Vanderbilt Stadium in its opener carried over to last week’s convincing 45-14 victory over Hillcrest. Joseph Welch ran for a pair of touchdowns for ECS. FACS was overmatched by Class 3A power Covington, 41-7. Cole Putnam threw for 149 yards and accounted for the Crusaders’ lone touchdown.

Millington (1-1) at Germantown (2-0)

When: 7 p.m., Friday

The Trojans received votes in this week’s Tennessee AP Class 4A poll, even after a 55-30 loss at Munford. Among the touchdowns for Millington was a 95-yard kickoff return by Eddie Macklin and 43-yard run from Jerfonzo Smith. Germantown has scored 49 and 38 points — a good reason why coach Chris Smith’s club is tied for seventh with Farragut in the Class 6A poll.

Harding Academy (1-1) at Lausanne (1-0)

When: 7 p.m., Friday

Two-time defending champion Lausanne roughed up Tunica Rosa Fort, 47-14, in the opener. Michigan commitment Eric Gray ran for 248 yards on 17 carries and three touchdowns. Harding must also key in on QB Sky Forest and WR Cameron Sims to pull off the upset. The Lions opened with a 33-6 victory over Trezevant. Last week, despite two TDs from Tyler Moore, Raleigh-Egypt salvaged a 28-26 road victory.

Covington (2-0) at McNairy Central (2-0)

When: 7 p.m., Friday

McNairy Central hasn’t seen anything like Covington. In a 41-7 victory over FACS, the Chargers rushed the ball 29 times for 460 yards and six touchdowns. Marcus Hayes led the way with 189 yards and four scores, yet Codarries Page (186) and Ke’Shun Gant (71) were just as valuable every time they touched the ball.

Does anybody in here think that the Millington Germantown game is going to be intruiging? I don't. I didn't even include that game in BGIM because of that. Am I missing something?

Doubt it, Millington is very far away from what they use to be in 2006-2012.. Wonder if they are going to drop down to 3A soon.

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
