Powerlifting (squat, bench, deadlift) or Weightlifting (Clean and jerk, snatch)? Only asking because a lot of people switch/confuse names.

Hi there. So what the problem or question is, I don't understand? We have both Powerlifting and Weightlifting. Both of them has its own rules, federations and championships 8-)

When E.J. "Doc" Kreis was the strength coach at Vanderbilt and Middle Tennessee State University he was pushing for the TSSAA to sanction some type of weightlifting as a sport.  If people are able to remember he would go around to various high schools and have competitions on Saturdays that were sponsored by Coca Cola.  Doc was way ahead of his time because this was the late 70's and early 80's.
